For release thirty-eight, label co-founder Mark Slee gets back into the producer’s chair for his third original EP on Manjumasi. The Eiderdown EP features two original tracks that very much follow in the tradition of Slee’s sound on the label: textured grooves, syncopated bass lines, and unique melodic leads. The quirky bell-like tones that feature in both Eiderdown and Velveteen have become a sonic signature for Slee, echoing the label’s inaugural Nocturne Belle EP and playing in the gray areas where organic and synthetic sound design meet.

On remix duties are two outstanding artists with well-established talents for balancing groove and sensitivity. First up is Venezuelan producer Arutani, well-known for his beautiful full-length albums on Laut & Luise. His remix of Eiderdown morphs the track into a darker, moodier space with a satisfying interplay between mysterious, ethereal pads and staccato arpeggiated synth lines. Next up is Soela, whose “Genuine Silk” LP on Dial firmly established her unique take on delicate dance music. Her dreamy dub mix of Velveteen is one that you can just let endlessly wash over you. A beautiful three-chord motif forms the anchor of the track, a magical musical passage that evokes a bit of everything - sadness, love, regret, optimism, and joy all at once. The original acid line wafts in and out as the track evolves over the course of a gentle arc.

Release number thirty-nine sees the return of Luis León to Manjumasi. Luis is no stranger to the label, having previously released the Flaming Tree EP with Padre, as well as remixing Jamie Stevens on the Titans EP. Luis now teams up with his production and Blankhaus label partner Unseener for a showcase of expressive and expansive modern uptempo grooves. The title track Silent Starts is an evocative tension-builder that pulsates with percussive energy and a sense of positive urgency throughout. We’re thrilled to welcome London-based wunderkind Tom VR to the label with his absolute fire Anthemix of Silent Starts, reworking the track with his signature deep rumbling basslines and a humanizing vocoder part. Completing the EP are a second uplifting original, Infinite Joy, and Rebirth, a delicate ambient piece that highlights this production partnership’s sensitivity to nuanced sound design.

Since his Titans EP release back in 2020, Jamie has kept incredibly busy in the studio with a steady output of deep and expansive progressive music. Dorhue continues in that tradition with its cinematic and driving soundscape, a complex blend of drones and synths that slowly open and modulate over a unique and eerie chord progression. First up on remix duties, Oona Dahl delivers a blistering psychedelic interpretation with haunting vocals wafting over an acid-tinged bassline. Manjumasi Podcast 025: Luis León + Padre

Release thirty-three has Manjumasi going down under for a showcase of deliciously groovy lo-fi minimal house music from Australian producer Michaelis. Each of the three originals puts forth a heady mix of restrained beats and basslines, complemented by a bevy of subtle sonic details, playful melodic flourishes and washes of ambient texture. The arrangements evolve gradually and intentionally, leaving plenty of time to get absolutely lost in the groove.

Two remixes of Special Assistance round out the package. The first comes from label co-founder Mark Slee, whose Rusty Transistor Dub takes the track in a more melody-forward direction with a modulated FM synth lead that meanders its way through the mix. Release thirty-four welcomes Berlin producer Fabian Krooss into the Manjumasi label fold. Having forged a unique style that balances playful sound design with cleverly constructed melodies, Fabian has rapidly established himself as one to watch. Already he has a string of releases on notable imprints like Stil Vor Talent, Gardens of Babylon, and most recently Saisons Musique.

This two-track EP on Manjumasi once again showcases his knack for melding fun grooves and contemplative vibes. Title track The Little Things is a simultaneously melancholic and hopeful number, featuring a super expressive synth lead that weaves its way through a bed of punchy percussion. On the flip side is Whopper, a deeper cut with bass-driven melody that crescendos into a flourish of rich, Oberheim-style pads. For release number forty we welcome Jamie Stevens back to the label. Since his Titans EP release back in 2020, Jamie has kept incredibly busy in the studio with a steady output of deep and expansive progressive music. Dorhue continues in that tradition with its cinematic and driving soundscape, a complex blend of drones and synths that slowly open and modulate over a unique and eerie chord progression. 

First up on remix duties, Oona Dahl delivers a blistering psychedelic interpretation with haunting vocals wafting over an acid-tinged bassline. Manjumasi co-founder Mark Slee rounds out the package with his Tilt Shift Mix, a deeper groove that puts a razor-sharp lead synth front and center, emphasizing the track’s clever melodic progression.

The debut release from Manjumasi, a quirky new record label from San Francisco, formed by Atish and Mark Slee. This EP puts forth two fresh originals from label co-founder Mark Slee. Nocturne Belle is deep and mysterious, Nacht Zwei a touch darker, more driving.

Tim Green turns in a truly epic remix, equally suited for the late night dancefloors as well as the desert expanse. And Patlac takes things in a dubby, twisted direction.

Mark Slee - Nocturne Belle (Original Mix)

The fourth EP from Manjumasi comes by way of another San Franciscan, Ben Engelberg aka Bengal. As with the previous release, this too marks the debut of a new artistic alias from a well-versed producer. Formerly releasing as BNZO on such labels as VIVa Music and Trapez LTD, Ben's highly compelling tech house grooves haven't gone unnoticed, garnering attention from the likes of major players like Steve Lawler and Luciano. After a few years break from regular releases, Ben has honed his chops and now re-emerges as Bengal. His new project showcases a different side of his character and an enhanced level of musicality. The three originals on this EP are luscious and deep, texturally rich tracks. Emotive and enchanting, melodic and mysterious. At the same time, they are driven by punchy percussive rhythms that lay a sturdy anchor on the dancefloor, a clear testament to Ben's well-honed experience delivering serious grooves.

First up on remix duty is Swiss maestro Dachshund, who has turned up the energy on Masada and delivered an oustanding club remix, combining his trademark stabby synth motifs with the more subtle melodic elements of the original - a fine pairing of strength and softness. Rounding things out is a re-interpretation of Fractal Dust by Berlin mainstay MUUI. His remix takes the original into an even deeper space, expansive sonic realms washed over with beautiful pads and melodic brushtrokes.

Fractal Dust EP

Bengal - Fractal Dust (Original Mix)

The 9th EP from Manjumasi comes from San Francisco talent Jose Vizcaino. A producer with plenty of releases to his name, the Recoding Desires EP offers a beautiful medley of sensual and cerebral tracks. The title tune draws you right in - it is mysterious and lush, built around a strong pad hook with gentle vocal effects. “Tough Placement” follows up with an absolutely hypnotic groove, trippy and mesmerizing arpeggios layered throughout. The third original is “Clever Moves,” a proper deep house stomper that showcases Jose’s understanding of the dance floor and his taste for a proper kick-and-bass groove.

The first remix comes from legendary Barcelona producer Pablo Bolivar. His remake of Recoding Desires is simply irresistible, massaging the track’s theme into an even deeper form, with percussive synth stabs and shuffly percussion pushing the sex appeal of this raw groove to the next level.

Last up is a killer remix from London stalwart Jay Shepheard, who turns in a lovely late-night version of Tough Placement. His stripped-down interpretation highlights a trippy and techy sensibility, with a stabby acid riff weaving its way over a delectable bedrock of rhythm and pads.

Manjumasi Podcast 003: Doyeq - Live at the Brooklyn Mirage

Episode 004 of the Manjumasi Podcast comes from DoubtingThomas (@doubtingthomas), a favorite producer of ours who was recently featured on the label with his lovely reworking of Atish + Bengal's "Tortoise." This podcast episode is chock full of tasty cuts in his signature style, stripped back tracks with fine flavors of house and minimal, with lots of subtle details seasoning the mix.

Manjumasi Podcast 004: DoubtingThomas

Number eighteen on San Francisco’s Manjumasi showcases a pair of deep, groovy productions from the Miami-based Postrel brothers, m.O.N.R.O.E. + Adisyn. The title track “Acid Mating Call” is a deep, seductive tune with an absolutely hypnotic melody. Despite the soft and gentle tone, this one is irresistible on the dance floor. Next up is “Terminal Bliss,” which showcases the darker side of this duo’s sound, with a more melancholic groove punctuated by deep chords, with a mystical melody that floats off in the distance, alluring but just out of focus.

The first remix comes from UK veteran producer Martin Iveson aka Atjazz. His “Galaxy Aart Remix” of Terminal Bliss is an incredibly lush and ethereal take on the original. Galaxy describes the tone of this remix well, with a super spaced-out vibe and a wide soundfield that washes over the listener. Luscious percussion fills out the mix, with a simple but beautiful vocal hook anchoring the humanity of this mix.

Rounding out the package is a remix of Acid Mating Call from Ultrastation, the new techno collaboration between Cosmic Force and Nuno Dos Santos. Their remix puts the Acid in this Mating Call, a late-night techno stomper with swirling dubbed-out reverbs and delays layered over staccato synth stabs, and a trippy synth breakdown that breaks into pieces just before returning to a potent, powerful groove.

Number twenty on San Francisco’s Manjumasi is the second solo artist EP from label co-founder atish. With the Warbler EP, atish presents a pair of original tracks that showcase strange and unique melodic stylings across two distinct energy levels, both featuring eerie and compelling string sounds with heavy use of creative effects. The title track, Warbler, has a solid late-night dance floor groove with a lush and haunting synth line anchoring the mid-range groove. Abyss takes things deeper, again veering into eerie sonic territories with vocal pads floating throughout the mix. This one sits in a more restrained rhythmic territory, well suited to the mood-setting opening hours.

The package features three top-notch remixes from a collection of very serious producers. Sweden’s Dorisburg turns in an incredibly heady interpretation of Abyss, with sparkling glassy pads juxtaposed against a bouncing synth bassline. Melodic master Rodriguez Jr. takes Warbler in a different direction, weaving the original elements into a tapestry of his signature arpeggios and synth crescendos. Lastly, Fort Romeau turns in an energetic Warbler mix, anchored by a long-building stabby bassline that develops into a real acid-tinged driver.

Episode 015 of the Manjumasi Podcast comes from Ukrainian producer Silat Beksi (@silat-beksi). Silat has been a fixture on our vinyl releases, first with a remix of R. Fentz on History Ate Itself, and recently with his three-track vinyl DNA (which sold out very quickly, and has a repress coming soon). He's got a unique and sophisticated taste for minimal groove, with subtle textures and melodic elements that set his sound apart from the pack.
