Mannequin is honoured to offer you one of the best UK New Wave reissue from the 80's.

UV PØP were an early 80’s post-punk group from the South Yorkshire region of England. Their sound was regionally bleak and they used staccato, angular guitars lines, with vocals ranged from spoken repeated mantras to whispered and shouted political poetics. An excerpt from the album’s liner notes penned by JP Shea helps explain the political climate during which this album was recorded: “In the 1980s there was nothing to smile about; nothing to smile for. The person whom some called wrongly the iron lady brought vengeful spiteful selfishness and a narrow-minded out- look into all our lives. Instead of love and respect there was: a three-day week, Miners strike, and The Falklands War. The sound of UV PØP has always been a sophisticated blend of sadness; with morose North Country sense and a humorous confrontational sensibility. So, you might ask why ‘No Songs Tomorrow’? There is the answer. UV PØP and John White were as certain as anybody there was a strong possibility there might not be anything left with which to make a tomorrow….The fight back, the resistance came in the miners’ strike, on the streets of north Ireland and in the sovereignty of popular culture. And, there was plenty of that in Yorkshire and particularly in the southernmost parts of that region. Working class poets had not all died with the Victorians. The Rough Trade charts for one week in 1982 tell a very interesting story. Alongside acts of the caliber of Sisters of Mercy, Robert Wyatt, Sex Gang Children and Virgin Prunes are UV PØP, their place well-earned.”

The Phase Group Mix continues with an entry by close friend of the label and our guest at the TC LK launch this weekend at Spanners, Scottish selector DJ Peanut. 

London-based DJ Peanut is known for her mastery of dark and psychedelic downtempo sounds as well as bass-heavy, dub-wise club fair. She can regularly be found playing in some of the capital's finest musical establishments including Ormside Projects, Spanners, Kindred and The Gun as well as regular trips back north to play in venues like La Cheetah, Berkeley Suite and Exit in Glasgow and residencies on Clyde Built Radio and Noods. Katie has been invited to join multiple Phase Group line ups in the past, either solo or playing back to back with her regular spar partner Lo Kindre, which shows the appreciation we have for her skills behind the decks.  

Her Phase Group Mix delivers exactly the kind of heads-down listening journey through dubbed out, bass-and-noise-driven downtempo club sounds that we love. A great warm up listen ahead of her set at Spanners this Friday.

Social(ist) Edits series returns with 6 refixes by https://soundcloud.com/pierrelabret, French electronic producer and head of the https://soundcloud.com/abstractrealityrecords label.
This selection of Acid, Electro, and Italo Disco remixes of old and obscure gems transports you into a distinctive side of Labret’s musical universe, one of cyborg bats dropping acidic guano on politicians, abandoned factories inhabited by grimy urban cryptids, and floating Mayan pyramids beneath a stormy, menacing night sky.

There is a fine line between the concepts of Edit and Remix on these tracks. Although the original audio elements were preserved and used as a foundation, Pierre has completely reinterpreted most of them by adding his own synthesizers and drum machines, creating a new meat carcass over the original skeleton.
The result is a collection of enhanced, radioactive mutant versions of the originals.

The release opens with an Edit of a track by late industrial artist and Palestine activist Muslimgauze.
Symbolically, the release will be out on June 17th, Bryn Jones’ birthday.
As always, all edits are available for free, but any support is welcome, as contributions from Edits will be donated to an organization supporting children in Gaza.

Another new project coming on Macadam Mambo is the first release of the duo Hun Hun. 
Hun Hun are 2 young brothers from Bruxelles who are doing a very special music in an ethno-shamanic-tribal vibe pretty cinematographic. With this first opus, an album of 10 tracks, they bring us on a journey into deep, dark and mysterious atmospheres with natural backgrounds from the forest, beautiful vocals, singular percussions, and rhythms that would easily fit for intro sets at Boccacio in 1988. This album could have been easily released on Crammed Disc in the 80’s, but it has a modern touch from today that makes it a proper gem for Macadam Mambo.
