Deathday (formerly Deathday Party) is a Los Angeles based Experimental Post-punk band, formed in Santa Ana, California in 2008 by brothers Alex Guillén and Giovanni Guillén. Previous incarnations of the group can be traced back to Santa Ana's Koo's scene of the late 1990's. While the title-track is an unreleased one, instead "Dropped Into Obscurity" was already included in the Downwards compilation "Click Heels" alongside with Tropic Of Cancer, Silent Servant, The KVB. On the B side Mannequin asked to the synth-master Legowelt to remix After Dark". 

Seldom has the post-punk revival seemed as urgent as with Deathday, who match their guitar driven dirges with esoteric industrial soundscapes and tape manipulation. Their music is often as bleak as it is violent, with low end cacophony bludgeoning the listener into submission. Lyrically, Deathday often invoke the violent culture hidden beneath the media, as well as explore the crippling aftershocks of isolation and the mysticism of the occult.

Comparisons, for those who prefer them, could easily be made to the likes of Throbbing Gristle and Suicide’s uncompromising attitude and primal infrastructure, but the band has equal roots in forgotten post-punk favorites such as Nagamatzu, Venus In Furs, and Joy of Life, creating a powerful hybrid exploring the darkest and most hypnotic corners of the spectrum.

Known as Deathday Party until 2011, the band’s self-titled cassette, released in early 2012, exists as a cold snapshot of their formative material, while both “After Dark” and “Dropped Into Obscurity,” released on Mannequin’s The End of Civilaztion and Downward’s So Click Heels compilations respectively, offer a club-friendly alternative. While neither track compromises the band’s dark overtones, these tracks are ripe for the dance floor, having garnered heavy play in LA, New York, and Berlin especially. With a handful of releases on the horizon for 2013, including a split with Bestial Mouths, a vinyl reissue of their self-titled debut, and new material to follow, the future is looking uncharacteristically bright for Deathday.

In March of 2006 the brothers Guillén participated in Glenn Branca’s “Symphony #13 (Hallucination City)” for 100 guitars in Los Angeles.

Fashion Flesh is the solo output moniker of John Talaga, based in Bay city, Michigan - USA.
Undoubtedly the perfect artist for the inaugural release of Adult Version, the Alley Version's experimental side label.

He's renowned for his unique sound that combined experimental rough energy with surreal dysfunctional pop factors.
Distinctive approach to electronic analog equipment played a crucial role in shaping his signature sound.
Most of the instruments used are self-built and customized.

samba-stic jubilee kicks in the jams of self-reassurance and esteem to the moon-child through 'Bold Astral Temperance'.
'Self-Discipline' reaches through the art of example without being preachy, pushy or puckered.
'Don’t Blow Up' suggests you do not, through the soft distractions of a rain shower on moods varied.
'Mimicry' lets you be yourself, to not live a mocking bird of prey nor a vulture of ideas.
'The Voice of God' is the voice of an atheistic John the Baptist with his attempt to bond the blind faith believers
of the universe. To experience a united non-linear yet heart felt existential state of ecstasy with the random
godhead gobblers this reality over.
'Brass Heels' steps on your hands and turns you on.
'Asexual Bondage' bravely champions the flowering chains of love between those that do not only fuck.

The cassette is a very limited edition, not to be missed considering its delicious artwork made by John Talaga himself and Francis Thayer.

Fashion Flesh -  Brass Heels [Asexual Bondage - 2025 Adult Version]

Editions Mego reissue the 2001 release Asuma by Finnish artist Ilpo Väisänen. Originally released on CD this is the first ever vinyl issue, remastered by Rashad Becker. 2001 is a landmark year for the artist following a wave of success from the notable outfit Väisänen formed alongside Mika Vanio, Pan Sonic (as they were now known then). Following a string of highly acclaimed and influential releases such as “Vakio”, “Kulma”, “A’ and “Aaltopiiri” Pan Sonic had toured the globe extensively leaving a trail of blown expectations and rumours of all manner of objects in venues cracking or falling apart due to the immense sound the duo concocted with their unique instruments.

Taking a break from the ecstatic cacophony of Pan Sonic, Väisänen retreated to work on a solo release which conjured the spirits of the former outfit whilst simultaneously carving out a more personal take on these new electronic forms.

Asuma is a precise study of drones, rhythms, clicks, ambience and gentle confusion. Whilst inhabiting a zone of abstraction the results also move in a natural field as Väisänen’s native Finland permeates these recordings as much as the idea of experimentation itself.

Autioitu 1 opens the album as delicate pinball rhythms bounce across the spectrum as a hairy drone hovers underneath. The mood is both intriguing and unsettling. Tukahduttaja is a delightfully disorientating sound sculpture that is hard to pinpoint what it actually is. Klikki is comparable to a microscopic version of Pink Floyd’s “Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict”. Asumaton is a foreboding miniature acting like a segway to Vallitseva which embraces the icy clicks that punctuates much of the Pan Sonic output. Arvioimaton Ongelma is an audio riddle whilst Jaettu jitters around a dancefloor crawl. Autioitu closes proceedings as a gentle ambient thumper. Asuma is awash with contradiction and mystery. This is time wrapped in twisted turns and rewards a neat payoff for those interested in the absolute fringes of electronic ‘dance’ music.

Camy Huot is known for driving the pulse of the underground scene via her Wavecrash events, Too Many Creeps livestreams, Batcage Radio shows and DJ sets at live shows & festivals like Best Kept Secret, Gothic Pogo, Club Solitaire, WaveFest and Grauzone. On stage she explores the depths of minimal wave, synth punk, electro, and EBM, weaving them into an evocative sonic journey.

Her debut EP "Echoes In My Room" is showcasing her growth as a producer and her commitment to creating introspective electronic music. In a recent article by Post-Punk.com, her debut single is described as a "fevered sound collage of rhythm and reverberation," capturing the lingering sensations of a night out. Camy Huot explains that the track reflects the experience of returning home with sounds still resonating, serving as "an ode to the mistakes we made at night." The full EP is slated for release in Spring 2025 under Wave Tension Records.

True to form, dear Louis provides with a dreamlike trip, via his 'Donkey Ride'. Drop the tab under the big pink, and take this stony cow-path along with him. Under the blazing sun, grass grows faster, emotions feel deeper, and the ordinary drifts far away. One hour of stretched melancholia, folk to lose yourself in the horizon, vivid synthwave and other oddities that gently blur reality.

Mannequin is honoured to offer you one of the best UK New Wave reissue from the 80's.

UV PØP were an early 80’s post-punk group from the South Yorkshire region of England. Their sound was regionally bleak and they used staccato, angular guitars lines, with vocals ranged from spoken repeated mantras to whispered and shouted political poetics. An excerpt from the album’s liner notes penned by JP Shea helps explain the political climate during which this album was recorded: “In the 1980s there was nothing to smile about; nothing to smile for. The person whom some called wrongly the iron lady brought vengeful spiteful selfishness and a narrow-minded out- look into all our lives. Instead of love and respect there was: a three-day week, Miners strike, and The Falklands War. The sound of UV PØP has always been a sophisticated blend of sadness; with morose North Country sense and a humorous confrontational sensibility. So, you might ask why ‘No Songs Tomorrow’? There is the answer. UV PØP and John White were as certain as anybody there was a strong possibility there might not be anything left with which to make a tomorrow….The fight back, the resistance came in the miners’ strike, on the streets of north Ireland and in the sovereignty of popular culture. And, there was plenty of that in Yorkshire and particularly in the southernmost parts of that region. Working class poets had not all died with the Victorians. The Rough Trade charts for one week in 1982 tell a very interesting story. Alongside acts of the caliber of Sisters of Mercy, Robert Wyatt, Sex Gang Children and Virgin Prunes are UV PØP, their place well-earned.”

Mannequin has the dual and parallel aim to unearth hidden or unpublished gems, running along a road that starts from the period of reference for this kind of music (late 70s – mid 80s) and comes to nowdays, with a vision deeply influence by Factory Records / 4AD labels. 

Catching the same spirit of such great labels, we asked to the italian synth wave princess Mushy to create a compilation starting from a tabula rasa. The mission was hard. Following her tastes and heart, she had to select a dozen of new bands from all over the world with unreleased and unique for this project tracks, picking up the title and realizing the graphic design and artwork. The full process of "The End Of Civilization" took almost 1 year but the result was touching us ￼deep into our soul. 

Mushy began her career crafting noise bursts and aggressive oblique instrumentals before, in her newest form, blooming into a beautiful, epic and heart-heavy icy synth sound, having both "Faded Heart" (2011) and "Breathless" (2012) as album of the week at Rough Trade. "The End Of Civilization" perfectly represents her double sided synth-wave / kraut-psychedelic soul. Every track she selected for us is an absolute highlight, moving from the analog minimal / cold wave sounds of Police Des Moeurs, ASSS, The Circa Tapes, TEEEL and Rosemary to the tempestuous post punk and psychedelia of Deathday, The Murder Act, Phosphor and The Strange Forces, ending with spectral cold folk of Tablets and The Long Wives.
