The Space Lady began her odyssey on the streets of Boston in the late 70s, then San Francisco ten years later, playing versions of contemporary pop music with an accordion and dressed flamboyantly, transmitting messages of peace and harmony. Following the theft and destruction of her accordion , The Space Lady invested in a then-new Casio keyboard, complete with a phase shifter and headset mic, birthing an otherworldly new dimension to popular song that has captured the imaginations of the underground and its leading exponents ever since.

The legend of The Space Lady has continued to grow in the 21st century. Originally featured on the landmark 'outsider' compilation Songs In The Key Of Z, then on mixes by Erol Alkan and John Maus, this music has transcended genre, style and fashion, opening up hearts and minds along the way.

14 years ago The Space Lady packed away her Casio synth and silenced her distinctive voice, retiring from the streets of San Francisco. Now, more than 30 years after her initial forays on Haight-Ashbury Harvard Square and Haight Ashbury, she has surfaced with the first ever official release of her timeless, startling, haunting music and, even more remarkably, has re-started her live career. Now in Colorado, The Space Lady continues to spread her message of peace, harmony and love.

Void Vision is a Philadelphia-based electronic project helmed by Shari Vari. It began around 2009 at a time when a wave of synth-revivalists were materializing, but the quality of the songwriting and intense vocals set the band apart from the pack. In a rare instance, Void Vision has managed to combine vintage dance elements with melodic structures, haunting melancholy, and lyrics that have a palpable soul. The songs themselves are dynamic, referencing a cross-section of the last 30 years of electronic music, while simultaneously retaining a uniqueness all their own.

Wierd Records weekly club night in New York, which showcased a variety of talented electronic and coldwave artists, served as an incubator for Void Vision in it’s early stages. After a standout debut performance at the club, they immediately caught the attention of Blind Prophet Records, who consequently released their first 7″ single, ‘In 20 Years’, which received excellent reviews.

Vari has continued performing and recording steadily over the last few years, releasing songs on compilations for various labels, including Rough Trade, and in 2012 the song ‘Everything is Fine’ was selected for Artforum magazine’s ‘Best of 2012′ issue. In 2013, Void Vision toured the West Coast and later that year released a split 12″ with Portland-based band, Vice Device. The first official full-length album, entitled ‘Sub Rosa’ is set to debut on Berlin-based Mannequin Records, followed by a European tour in 2015.

Shari Vari formed Void Vision in 2009 originally as a duo, during the explosion of the new minimal synth and cold wave scene in United States. Sharing the same scene of the Wierd Records associates like Led Er Est, Martial Canterel, Xeno & Oaklander, Automelodi, in 2010 VV released ‘In Twenty Years’ on Blind Prophet (Sean Ragon’s Cult Of Youth record label), receiving also the attention of the Rough Trade dudes, who asked to put out a track for one of their synth wave compilations.
After other split vinyls, tapes and compilations, Mannequin approached Shari with the intention to continue what Wierd Records started, giving a proper shape to her beautiful and youthful dark electronic sound. The result is 10 hypnotic cold analog tracks dominated by the warm and fragile Shari’s voice, some more “pop orientated” some others belonging to the original “cold wave” atmosphere.

“Sub Rosa” is an edition of 400 copies on 160 gram black vinyl and 100 copies on 160 gram white vinyl.

Berlin based Mannequin Records pushes out some proper Industrial/EBM bangers. Raised in Pescara on the Adriatic Coast and ow based in Frankfurt am Main Antonio Barbetta is debuting on Death of the Machines as Raw Ambassador. 

The heavy four track ep is created to burn every dancefloor with full Industrial vibes and a lot of EBM influences, giving us a small insight into his violent and rough sound. Antonio is also running the Smashing Tape record label, with releases from Violet Poison, Innsyter, DJ Loser and Delivery. TIP!!!

Exit Stance

Greek born recording artist known for performing and recording live electronic music using pre-midi synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines. Along with Trenton Chase, they are running their own record label, June Records that was established in 2010. Apart from his solo project, June has appeared under the alias Πρόσωπο (Prosopo) and he is also one half of the group Manie Sans Délire.

June will release a full lenght in 2018 via Mannequin Records.

Waves of the Future // 2x12"

Mannequin’s newest project and 100th release overall: the Waves of the Future double LP compilation, which itself is not a conventional retrospective collection. Case in point – none of the artists appearing on this collection have put out their own releases on Mannequin yet, despite acting as Mannequin’s unofficial ambassadors (via DJ sets and other means). This makes the set even more compelling rather than less so, since it shows how Mannequin fits into a larger picture that includes other scene leaders and label owners including Beau Wanzer (Ecstatic), Willie Burns (WT Records), Silent Servant (Jealous God) and Ron Morelli (L.I.E.S.). Of equal importance is how Waves of the Future projects a sense of aesthetic resilience and continuity; showcasing just how well the current artists allied with Mannequin employ and re-interpret the sonic lexicon that appears on that label’s reissues of ‘classic’ acts such as Nocturnal Emissions, Bourbonese Qualk, Din A Testbild and Doris Norton.

However, none of this would matter as much if the music itself didn’t have strong potential for lighting a blaze in the dark corners of the human imagination, and of course for forcing bodies into motion. Each track here pivots around a couple of key sound elements that seem to set the stage for the next track to come: see the sputtering / chopped ghost voices on Morelli’s “Charges Won’t Stick,” which easily informs the slicing drone and authoritarian beat of Shawn O’ Sullivan’s “Ill Fit,” which then lays down the emotional foundation for the sequencer-powered “With You” from An-I & Adriani or the glassy landscape of Illum Sphere’s “Exhaustion”. Elsewhere, the wired mischief of Not Waving intersects easily with the spherical electro-funk and coded commands of Beau Wanzer. When all the disparate parts of Waves of the Future are soldered together, it perfectly illustrates Mannequin’s non-linear philosophy and Adriani’s suggestion that Mannequin listeners directly engage with the music rather than trying too hard to analyze or dissect it.

Mannequin Records is simply elated to present the debut 12'' EP from Light House. 

Light House have been kicking around Portland for two years. The band contains Chris Relyea, an ex member from The Rapture, Dawn Sharp and Brooks Blackhawk from Atriarch. Excellent dark wave with spacious mixes, minimal synths, reverb drenched guitars and eerie malevolent vocals that either pierces your heart or your spinal cord.

Originally released in United States by Freee record label in 2012 and recorded on pure analog tape, ‘In Their Image’ EP illuminates the romantic and elemental nature of Light House's dreamlike sound, a moody, theatrical dirge which brings to mind classic 4AD acts such as Dead Can Dance and This Mortal Coil. 

To celebrate this relaunch Light House will be touring America and Europe, hitting the West Coast in mid June to coincide with Warm Leatherette in San Francisco, then onto New York and making their way along the East Coast. 

Light House is music that lulls the Etheric body awake, in a hypotetical world where Tropic Of Cancer meets Soft Metals.
