ABOUT edIT:

From humble beginnings on the Los Angeles underground to world tours of sold-out arenas, Edward Ma has seen it all in a career that now spans more than 15 years. Starting off as The Con Artist in the late 1990s, Ma produced for rappers such as Busdriver, P.E.A.C.E and Sole while holding a residency at Konkrete Jungle, where drum n bass and hip hop were spun side by side to hungry ears. In 2003, Ma reshaped himself as edIT. The next year he debuted with Crying Over Pros For No Reason on seminal UK label Planet Mu. The album melded together Ma's love of hip hop, drum n bass and experimental electronic music, a fusion that would presage hip hop's return to its electronic roots by the end of the decade. Crying Over Pros… sounded like nothing else at the time. It sounded like the future and it would put Ma on the path of his next evolution. In 2006 he co-founded The Glitch Mob, a project that would ultimately take over his solo work by 2010. Today the Mob inhabit a unique position in the dance music world, the roots of which go back to the sonic experiments of Crying Over Pros… Ten years on, the album is being reissued on limited edition vinyl and as a digital bundle with an extra five tracks from the original sessions. Its emotive power hasn't faded one bit and its relevance has only increased as the future it hinted at became the present we now live in.

Second single from en2ak's third solo LP



RBMA 2013 participant En2ak returns this April with his third full-length for U Know Me Records, Warsaw’s purveyors of all things beats and bass. Featuring collaborations with New York rapper Jimmy Jams and Polish producer Spisek Jednego, En2ak continues to evolve his hyper-detailed sound on his latest LP – 3.

Thirteen genre-bending tracks make up 3, an album clearly not afraid to take some risks. It’s an intriguing patchwork of samples and bubbling synths, weaving in and out of beats borrowing from the swagger of hip-hop and the frenetic feel of footwork. “6 by 9s”, featuring Jimmy Jams (whose work has included collaborations with Netsky, as well as his current project Widows), is a highlight, and a bold look at the future sound of hip-hop. Throughout 3, En2ak is casually flipping off conventional standards with eyes firmly set on the future.

Perhaps it was this brazenly experimental approach that caught the attention of the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy. As RBMA describes its future participant, who is set to open for Flying Lotus during his time in New York, “the arrhythmic sound of Poland's En2ak draws directly on his love of classic cut-and-paste music, from DJ Shadow to Coldcut and DJ Vadim.”

Based in Wroclaw, Poland, En2ak has continuously wowed audiences with his productions, from his debut 2011 LP Celestial Toyroom to 2012’s Minerva, Mayhem And Margaritas. As part of the Przasnik duo, En2ak has released vinyl for Funky Mamas and Papas, as well as remixes for the likes of Igor Boxx, Dreadsquad, and Una Mas Trio. On top of it all, En2ak is also a member of the Poppa Fats' Dlghts DJ collective.

With his RBMA experience and the release of 3 just around the corner, it’s about time the world got to know about En2ak.

Tym razem tytuł albumu wyraża oczywistą oczywistość, no i skracać go nie trzeba. Co innego tracklista, tu ponownie nawiązań do popkultury mrowie. W przypadku „Trójki” chyba równie bogata byłaby lista muzycznych inspiracji - gdyby ktoś się taką zdecydował sprokurować rzecz jasna. I nie zrozumcie mnie źle, „3” nie jest żadną imitacją. Jest może natomiast jakimś odbiciem tego, co dzieje się we współczesnej klubowej elektronice. Z pewnością można tu łatwo zauważyć, jakie muzyczne zjawiska przyciągają obecnie uwagę en2aka.

Z fakturalnych nieoczywistości nie rezygnuje on wcale, jednak na nowym albumie z wolna toczące się bity zostaną wyparte na rzecz energetycznych i połamanych podziałów perkusyjnych. Pod tym względem „3” to formalna świeżość. I choć, jak już wspomniałem, galopujące bębny mocno wypełnią tu przestrzeń, pozostawiają także nieco miejsca numerom, które, m.in. ze względu na swoją motorykę na myśl przywodzić będą poprzednie wydawnictwa. Feeling en2aka również pozostaje ten sam - Wrocławianin jest nadal daleki od sztampy i trudny do zaszufladkowania. Z całą pewnością „3” ze względu na swoją inność zapadnie na długo w pamięć. Warto może jeszcze dodać że w „6 by 9s” gościnnie udziela się Jimmy Jams (połowa duetu Widows), z kolei „Zombie with Shutdown Syndrome” swoje zajebiste piano-staby zawdzięcza Spiskowi Jednego (z Night Marks Electric Trio).
