It goes without saying that Toby Tobias has been a long standing figure in the London scene. You may recognise him for his seminal house cuts on labels like Rekids , ESP Institute, Delusions of Grandeur, International Feel, Odori and Quintessentials to name a few. You can also catch him spinning records around London, most noticeably House Of St. Barnabas in Soho where we host a party with him monthly. For his Phonica mix Toby brings us on a masterclass through various styles of deep house, breaks, euphoric breakdowns, melodic percussions and acid basslines. Almost like a segment from a night out this is a little taste of one of his long all night sets in a dark London club.

"When I started putting together the tracklist for this mix, I think I knew I wanted to create a mix that could showcase what I could do when given a more peak-time slot and a club ready with dancers wanting to get loose. It’s filled with some of my favourite club tracks whilst going through the motions in terms of genre, style, energy. Lots of rolling techno, euphoric breakdowns and tracks I’ve not generally had the chance to play out in a club scenario yet. It’s a long one at 2 hours, but I hope people enjoy it enough to stay till the end. It finishes on one of my favourite tracks Tys - Astral that sums up my style of DJing to an extent - feel good nostalgia."

Simoncino is a life long student of classicist house and techno. Having soaked up all Chicago and Detroit has to offer for as long as he can remember, Simone Vescovo fomented his own style that draws on the past but looks to his own life for emotional inspiration. Always made with an authentic selection of original hardware such as vintage synths and analog drum machines, his frayed and nostalgic sounds have come on L.I.E.S and Creme Organization, Mathematics and Echovolt. Remixed by everyone from Larry Heard to Chez Damier, this Italian is an adopted son of the cult US house scene who also runs his own HotMix label. 

All of his influences are laid bare on the mix he has served up for us: from deep and vocal stuff to lo-fi and gritty offerings, there is a timelessness and melodic freshness to Simoncino’s house that really stands it apart. Growing ever more cosmic and spaced out as it unfolds, this trip ends up in a blissed out utopia filled with real romanticism.
