For our newest release, we took a deep dive into our catalogue and found a special EP, which formerly was only available on limited edition vinyl. 

"Illegal" is the name of the release and it´s by Brazil´s Edu K, the legendary front man, songwriter and enfant terrible from Porto Alegre, formerly lead vocalist of punk funk group De Falla. The "Illegal" EP, now exclusively re-released on Bandcamp, was originally put out in 2006. Its seven fantastic mash ups and party anthems are still very likely to rock any party today! 

"Illegal" features sample heavy versions of songs from Edu K´s "Frénetiko" album, such as "Popozuda Rock n´Roll" (here called "State Of Shock & Roll"), "Sex-O-Matic" ft. Deize Tigrona in a special Bonde Do Rôle remix, "Bundalele Baile Jean" and many more.

Edu K "Bundalele Baile Jean"

Originally recorded in 1979 in Paris but only released independently in Brazil in 1981, Fernando Falcão´s "Curimão" was released on the "Memória Das Aguas" album. Originally a much sought after record, it was re-released by Selva Discos in 2019.

Its mastermind, Fernando Falcão, left Brasil in 1968 during the peak of military dictatorship and moved to France, where he lived in exile for 15 years. There, after working in music, acting, and sculpting, he involved himself in Jérôme Savary's legendary Grand Magic Circus, where he met his first wife, Valérie Kling. It was from this relationship that a partnership began between the musician and his father-in-law, the artist François-Xavier Lalanne, who guided Falcão in the process of inventing sound sculptures such as the balauê – a horizontal version of the berimbau string instrument whose sound was influenced by a water stream (since there was a hose soaking parts of the balauê wet during the performances). Much of this exploration and experimentation resulted in the album "Memória das Águas", from which "Curimão" stems from.

A long time fan of Fernando Falcão´s music, Daniel Haaksman now enhanced „Curimão“ with heavy bass and turned this rare groove into a club friendly DJ track. It´s #1 in the "More Black Atlantica Edits" series which will kick off on Man Recordings in Janaury. It´s predecessor, "Black Atlantica Edits" was released on BBE records early 2020.

Barbatuques is a Brazilian collective that produces music mainly through their bodies, like beatboxing, clap of hands, whispers, finger claps, hitting their chests, tap dancing etc. resulting in stunning sounds. Now hot Italian producers Milangeles and The Clerk have teamed up to rework Barbatuques´epic "Baiana" anthem in contemporary bass style.

Super Mama Djombo was a band that was formed at a boy scout camp in 1964 in Guinea-Bissau and grew into a national band and ultimately a global phenomenon. They became one of the most popular bands from the West African country, which gained independence from Portuguese colonial rule in 1974. They only had one recording session, in Lisbon January 1980, from which five LPs appeared. "Dissan Na M´Bera" was originally released on the 1980 "Na Cambança" album. Their music, like many emergent sounds of that time in West Africa, was electrified folk music with a dedicated fan base across Western Africa and the lusophonic countries.

Super Mama Djombo's song, sung in Kreol, highlights the struggles faced by truck drivers in Guinea-Bissau as they navigate difficult roads with aging trucks. The lyrics describe the poor condition of the vehicles ("high bed" and "truck loaded with goods") and emphasize the importance of truckers in transporting food and fostering economic activity in places like Giguiridia, a market hub.

The song also reflects the harsh working conditions, mentioning the heavy cargo and dangerous, poorly maintained roads. It concludes with a plea to the mothers of the drivers to pray for their safety on these treacherous journeys. Overall, it celebrates the perseverance and contributions of these drivers to the nation's economy.

The Daniel Haaksman edit of "Dissan Na M´Bera" was first released in April 2020 on the BBE compilation "Daniel Haaksman Presents Black Atlantica Edits". Because of the Covid pandemic, the edit didn´t receive club-play at first but in the meantime grew into a staple in Afro oriented DJ sets across the globe, becoming one of the most played afro edits in Tulum in the 2023 season. The edit has been streamed on Spotify morethan 1 million times since its release in 2020.

Man Recordings is pleased to present the debut single of the Berlin-based choir Canto Diáspora.  The choir, consisting of forty female singers from Latin American, is led by singer Carolina Riaño, who has brought the folkore classic “Aguaçerito Llové” (literally: “Little Rain Shower”) into a new format.

“Aguacerito Llové” sounds lyrical and poetic - like something that could be written in a novel by García Márquez. It is magical realism in musical form.

In Carolina Riaño's arrangement, “Aguacerito Llové” becomes a song about collectivity, reflecting the powerful energy that arises when Canto Diaspora sings live together.

“Yo no canto por cantar ni por tener buena voz, canto porque no estoy sola y así se siente mejor.” (“I don't sing for the sake of singing or to have a good voice, I sing because I'm not alone and so it feels better”).

It is also about the transformative, sometimes melancholy experience of living away from home and settling into a new culture:

“Yo no sé si fue el destino el que me trajo hasta aquí , habitando mis dos mundos, resguardando la raíz.”
(“I don't know if it was fate that brought me here, inhabiting my two worlds, protecting the root”).

The song is an integral part of popular culture in Latin America and has been sung by generations of artists. “Aguacerito Llové” is associated with Afro-Latin American musical traditions, especially in countries such as Colombia, Venezuela and the Caribbean. These regions have a rich history of African influence through the transatlantic slave trade, and their music reflects the resilience, spirituality and emotional depth of these communities.

In Canto Diaspora's version, “Aguaçerito Llové” becomes an empowering sound and cultural bridge builder.

After giving the Latin American folkore classic “Aguacerito Llové” a new life with a debut release on Man Recordings, Berlin choir @canto-diaspora return with a hot remix!

The task to rework the all acoustic, all vocal original „Aguacerito Llové“ into a club ready track was masterfully executed by Berlin´s tropical bass pioneer @DanielHaaksman. Only using the main vocal hook, Daniel spliced the remaining voices and scattered them loosely over the track, adding a flute melody and heavy bass. In a second moment, Haaksman knocks out the dembow ryhthm over the call and response part. All combined, “Aguacerito Llové” becomes a tropical banger, reflecting the powerful energy that arises when Canto Diáspora sing live together.

„Aguacerito Llové“ (Daniel Haaksman Remix) will easily be one of the big mid-tempo tunes that will be played during the hot summer months on beaches, festivals and outdoor events and will spread the magic sound of Canto Diáspora into further worlds.

Following the international success of the debut single "Aguacerito Llové" which received radio support from DJs such as Gilles Peterson (Worldwide FM) and Jamz Supernova (BBC6) amongst others, the 3rd single of Canto Diáspora is out now: "Pajarillo Verde / Seis Figureao". The mini medley combines two important works of Latin American folklore, reinterpreted by the first Latin American female vocal ensemble from Berlin, Canto Diáspora, whose voices create a lively connection between tradition and the present.

"Pajarillo Verde" is one of the best-known songs in the Venezuelan folk repertoire. Its name evokes the bird – light, iridescent, fragile – and at the same time the rhythm of the joropo, which traces the gallop of horses across the vast plains of the Llanos. Between Venezuela and Colombia, where harp, cuatro and maracas characterise the soundscape, the song tells of the fragility of life and the delicate connections between humans and nature – a poetic motif that echoes in many Latin American songs. In Canto Diáspora's interpretation, the piece takes on a new resonance: tradition is upheld, yet brought into the present, entering into dialogue with the "Seis Figureao", a Venezuelan rhythm rarely heard outside its homeland.

Verses written especially by Canto Diáspora are recited by the voices of the women in the ensemble, who have created their own community in Berlin through singing. In this soundscape, past and present, origin and lived experience interweave to form a living space in which tradition lives on and, at the same time, something new emerges. Music becomes a bridge here – between the plains of the Llanos and the streets of Berlin, between memory and the present, between the intimacy of individual lives and the power of community. Every note, every rhythm tells of movement, encounter and the delicate balance between preservation and renewal.

Five years after its initial release, Daniel Haaksman´s „Black Atlantica Edits“ compilation on BBE gets another re-vitalisation. Recently deleted on BBE, the edit of C.K. Mann + Carousel 7’s “Asafo Beesuon” now sees a re-release on Man Recordings.

The original version of „Asafo Beesoun“ is a buoyant highlife classic built on warm guitars and an infectious rhythmic pulse. The song’s lively horn lines give it a celebratory lift that feels instantly energizing. Its call-and-response vocals draw directly from Fante musical traditions, grounding the track in deep cultural roots. At the same time, the clean production and tight band interplay highlight the modern edge C.K. Mann brought to highlife. Carousel 7’s rhythm section locks into a groove that’s impossible not to move to. The song radiates a sunny, communal spirit that makes it timeless. Altogether, it’s a shining example of Mann’s ability to blend tradition and contemporary flair into something irresistibly joyful.

Originally, a 13.30min medley, the Daniel Haaksman edit reduced the track to its essential funk part, perfectly for DJ and club use. With its super low end kick and a mix friendly intro and outro, this highlife classic gets transported into the 21st century making it the must-play track for any Afro oriented set.

One of the best selling tunes on Man Recordings, "Kid Conga"  ft. MC Miltinho was released in 2009 on Daniel Haaksman´s "Gostoso EP" and soon became an underground hit.  “Kid Conga“ features MC Miltinho on the mike, the son of baile funk legend MC Batata, singing a nursery rhyme over a heavy, tropical beat, accompanied by an arpeggio that is resembling North Eastern Brasilian forro melodies. The song was later featured in Rock Star Games´GTA IV EP 2 and has become a classic since. The track later was remixed by Dubble Dutch, DJ Rob 3, Bert On Beats, Edu K and João Brasil amongst others.

The result is the "Flex” EP, who finds home at Man Recordings, another influence for him. In the Eps five tracks, Sants draws club scenarios and urban scapisms of the suburbs of São Paulo by a view of a person who lives its night every single weekend.

Man Recordings returns after a short autumn/winter hiatus with four remixes of the highly praised "Baile Saboroso" Ep by Brazilian wunderkind Omulu and French dembow don King Doudou. The EP was bigged up by players such as Diplo, Munchi, Uproot Andy, Poirier, Feadz and many others.

The remixes are kicked off by Portugal´s tarraxo beat mestre Mambos Da Casa and his sweet Afro house meets baile funk remix of "Bonde Da Pantera" ft. MC Tha. A version perfect for getting ladies started on the dancefloor. The second rework is by Amsterdam based DJ Fasta (of "Fulanito" fame) who added extra Dutch moombathon flavour to the original track.

"Baile Saboroso", the lead track from the original EP gets an edit treatment by Man Rec boss Daniel Haaksman who replaced the original trance synth with Marimbas making it sound more organic. Finally, Kid Cala is baile funking "Baile Saboroso" to high fever pitch with his club friendly version.

Daniel Haaksman ́s remixes have been a fixture in the global club scene for years, offering up a hard-to-define blend of Brazilian and Afro sounds mixed with various club genres. “Remixes 2008-2017” shows Daniel Haaksman ́s eclectic sound melded into a more club-friendly format with eleven remixes for artists such as Schlachthofbronx, Batuk, Felipe Cordeiro, Omulu and Populous amongst others, most of which were released over the past nine years.


The compilation “Remixes 2008-2017” now anthologises Daniel Haaksman ́s best remixes, covering his finest remixes from 2007 up to 2017. The compilation displays his preference for remixing a diverse range of artists from around the world, including Germany ́s Schlachthofbronx, South Africa ́s Batuk or Weird Together from New Zealand. The opener, a remix for Brazilian Nordestino star Felipe Cordeiro kicks off with a hip shaking, dembow inspired beat. Colombia ́s Makine Del Karibe gets reworked in a tropical house fashion, the Brazilian-French collaboration of Omulu + King Doudou receives a trap inspired treatment. The compilation excels when it showcases Daniel Haaksman ́s knack for transforming the original onto a club ready rework withouth losing the original ́s essence and identity. “Loco” for example by Cuban outfit Madera Limpia is remixed into a dancefloor bomb, deftly layering synths and percussions on a thundering beat. Other highlights include his recent remix for Italian up and commer, Populous as well as Montreal- Moçambican singer Samito.

Creating a great remix is a delicate process, one that requires a relationship to the original, yet also a certain forcefulness in order to create a new production, rather than merely adding another beat to an acappella or melody. Over the last decade, Daniel Haaksman has displayed exactly this balance of reverence and confidence, creating his own sound in using the groundwork of others to build upon. This compilation presents Haaksman ́s capacity to produce remixes that sound today as fresh as they did when they were originally released.

Man Recordings is happy to release the new single by Polish-Angolan duo Lua Preta. Titled “Cabeça Na Lua” (“Head On The Moon”).

Based in the Western Polish city of Poznan, Lua Preta are consisting of vocalist and MC Ms. Gia of Angolan descent, and Polish DJ and producer Mentalcut. Together they bring a frenetic mixture of futuristic electronic music and African genres. Their 2016's debut single “Melhor Vai Embora” strongly marked their presence in the scene of African infused club music which led to their first EP  “Emoçoes Coloridas”. Their fresh and unique sound led to 2018 being their breakthrough year with their biggest hit up to date being released ('Quero Mais' featuring Lesotho's Morena Leraba), their first official video being shot entirely in Lisbon and a round of live appearances on festivals and club shows across Europe.

With their debut release on Man Recordings, additional produced by label-boss Daniel Haaksman, Lua Preta move another step forward. Titled “Head On The Moon” this EP features two new tracks. “Cabeça Na Lua” is a heavy hitting, broken beat meets UK funky afro tune reflecting on the need to continue the fight for political and social justice in these grim political times. “Passado” ft. After the great feedback and club-play of their Man Recordings debut EP, Polish-Angolan duo Lua Preta return with a severe European remix package of "Cabeça Na Lua" and "Passado" ft. Kevin.

New rising Afro bass artist Rolv.K from Geneva presents the first rework in this remix package and adds catchy melodic components to the slick original track of "Passado". Milan´s Ckrono, who recently debuted on Mad Decent with his MC Bin Laden collabo, puts Cabeça Na Lua on the São Paulo baile funk map, a seductive, minimalist version that will make booties on the dancefloor go bum bum tam tam.

Angola has long been a hot bed for musical innovation. Of couse, immediately kuduro comes to mind when there´s talk about electronic dance music from Angola and the South Western part of the giant continent. But besides kuduro, Angola also birthed a bastard child of kuduro and afro house, called ku house, which was especially popular in the early 2010´s. This relatively obscure term describes tracks that have house tempo, yet the triplety, off-beatish percussion groove of kuduro.

One of the biggest ku house anthems is DJ Havaiana´s “Cazukuta”, originally released in 2012. It immediately became a staple in the Angolan club scene. Soon picked up by Angolan Kuduro MC Francis Boy, the catchy synth line and the irrestible beat morphed into the backing track for the song “Itocota” which became a major success in Portuguese speaking Africa, as well as Portugal.

When DJing in Angola in 2013, Daniel Haaksman randomly picked up the DJ Havaiana instrumental version of “Itocota” and began to play it out in his DJ mixes, always gathering enthusastic responses about the track. Produced on very basic home studio equipment with a modes sound, the original instrumental was confined to mixtape use only. Only 2019 Daniel found out that DJ Havaiana was on Soundcloud and contacted him via Whatsapp to ask whether Havaiana had still the stems for “Cazukuta” as Daniel would´ve loved to mix and arrange it in better sound quality. Luckily, Havaiana kept the beatless mix of “Cazukuta” and sent it to Daniel.

The result is here. “Cazukuta – Daniel Haaksman Edit”, a highly fascinating club track that both combines the innovations of Angolan dance sounds as well as an early Detroit vibe. It´s the perfect in between tune.

“Cazukuta” is a word in the regional Angolan language Quimbundo meaning confusion, clutter, turmoil. It’s also the name of a dance style from Angola. This dance is often showcased during the street Carnival parades or carnival related festivities.  Cazukuta as a genre is a heavier semba, played during the carnival, with many instruments similar to the Brasilian samba school ensemble.

In the fast paced world of dance we´ve seen a lot of trends come and go. We´ve also seen artist careers rising quickly to the top and then suddenly crumbling. And despite the profound changes in the musical landscape, we´re still here and people still play our music. One of the reasons is that we stuck to our original aim: To release exciting music from around the world.

Since Man 01, the "Não Wave - Brazilian Post Punk 1979-1988" compilation, we were especially keen on blending local roots with the global in music, which has become a mega trend in pop and dance music. When we started the label in 2005 the internet was still a privilige of the Northern hemisphere and people were still buying vinyls and CDs.

Since we can´t throw a big celebration for our anniversary due to pandemic restrictions, we decided to put together a compilation with remixes of fifteen tracks from our catalogue. We asked young and upcoming remixers that grew up with the Man Recordings sound over all these years, to put their hand onto selected tracks and rework them 2020 style.

The line up is great and the remixes even greater. The "15 Years Of Man Recordings" compilation features reworks by Ckrono, Lorenzo BITW, 2Pekes, Rolv.K, Kensaye, KG, Don Low, Bianca Oblivion and So Vital amongst others. There´s some super fresh takes on our former releases, and some solid club compatible bangers. They all resonate that Man Recordings is here to stay!
