MÁFIA DO DENDÊ presents a snapshot of the current Bahia Bass scene - from trap to arrocha, produced in the outskirts of one of the most musical states in Brazil.

As the country with the world’s most diverse range of home-grown percussive instruments and, of course, dance music genres to go with them, it’s natural that Brazilians developed their own unique forms of dance music.  This team of DJ-Producers blend genres such as Pagodão, Trap, Arrocha, Afrohouse, Funk, Sambareggae and Axé, creating a new path for Bahian music and generating new flavors for the dance floors of Brazil and the world.

Inspired by international dance floor culture and large sound systems, popular Brazilian music genres and the emergence of new young producers in Bahia, the DJ/music producer/curators, Lucio K and DJ Werson, took the initiative to organize a compilation dedicated to the sound of Bahia, with talented producers who live and accompany this scene and its musical evolution.  This release is offered as a mark in the evolution and the valorization of the Bahia Bass movement, where the prejudice against what is seen as local, regional and popular and therefore inferior, is finally overcome.

O álbum conta com a participação de 11 artistas de diversos estilos e gerações, figuras consagrados e expoentes de Brasília, formando um recorte temporal da música da nossa capital. A few days ago we were surfing through the mountain of demos that fill up our email inbox (it's info@enchufada.com by the way, send us your stuff too!), when we found a remix of Hangover (Bababa) by Buraka Som Sistema that immediately got our attention. And considering the enormous amount of remixes we've heard of this classic Buraka track, that's really saying something.

Get to know Sistema Criolina, an artist collective from Brasilia composed by Ops, Pezão and Barata, who not only make awesome music but also promote events, art shows, educational workshops, you name it. Adept at bringing together the energy of electronic club music with the richness of Brazilian, African and Caribbean rhythms, it's no wonder that the boys have been feeling the Rasteirinha vibe, a hybrid between the slow cadence of zouk bass and traditional Brazilian percussion. Temporarily living in Lisbon, Ops, the main music producer of the crew, decided to pay tribute to Lisbon's most awesome band by slowing down Hangover (Bababa)'s frantic beats imto a rolling, hypnotic affair. The result is this really cool rasteirinha remix of an all-time Buraka favourite, that we're really happy to share with you for free.

Buraka Som Sistema - Hangover (Bababa) (Ops [Criolina] Remix)

Daniel Haaksman ́s remixes have been a fixture in the global club scene for years, offering up a hard-to-define blend of Brazilian and Afro sounds mixed with various club genres. “Remixes 2008-2017” shows Daniel Haaksman ́s eclectic sound melded into a more club-friendly format with eleven remixes for artists such as Schlachthofbronx, Batuk, Felipe Cordeiro, Omulu and Populous amongst others, most of which were released over the past nine years.


The compilation “Remixes 2008-2017” now anthologises Daniel Haaksman ́s best remixes, covering his finest remixes from 2007 up to 2017. The compilation displays his preference for remixing a diverse range of artists from around the world, including Germany ́s Schlachthofbronx, South Africa ́s Batuk or Weird Together from New Zealand. The opener, a remix for Brazilian Nordestino star Felipe Cordeiro kicks off with a hip shaking, dembow inspired beat. Colombia ́s Makine Del Karibe gets reworked in a tropical house fashion, the Brazilian-French collaboration of Omulu + King Doudou receives a trap inspired treatment. The compilation excels when it showcases Daniel Haaksman ́s knack for transforming the original onto a club ready rework withouth losing the original ́s essence and identity. “Loco” for example by Cuban outfit Madera Limpia is remixed into a dancefloor bomb, deftly layering synths and percussions on a thundering beat. Other highlights include his recent remix for Italian up and commer, Populous as well as Montreal- Moçambican singer Samito.

Creating a great remix is a delicate process, one that requires a relationship to the original, yet also a certain forcefulness in order to create a new production, rather than merely adding another beat to an acappella or melody. Over the last decade, Daniel Haaksman has displayed exactly this balance of reverence and confidence, creating his own sound in using the groundwork of others to build upon. This compilation presents Haaksman ́s capacity to produce remixes that sound today as fresh as they did when they were originally released.

The release is a collaboration project of some of Brazil's best producers who have remixed each song to showcase their unique sound that from all aspects of Brazilian culture.
