Delay Grounds - How To Monetize Existential Dread (PDCOMP004)

Our sixth VA compilation continues in the collective spirit at the heart of Pressure Dome; here taking its fullest form. The first of its kind in the label catalogue, ‘Two [Is Greater Than] One’ sees a selection of PD regulars and friends of the label put their heads together across eight atmospheric tracks, equally as suited to the club as to solo listening. 

Those who have followed the label for a while will be no stranger to the comp’s first collaborator. Human Resources teams up with London dub techno specialist, Keplrr, on ‘Spring’: a mood-led composition where the impact is contained in atmosphere. Fragmented drum breaks are engulfed by airy synth pads and punctuated by a dancehall-indebted rhythm that marches at 90BPM. ‘Yuppel’ welcomes Noods Radio mainstay Sid Quirk aka Keppel into the mix. He is joined by label boss, Yushh, on a ruminative percussive tool, guided by cavernous drums that fabricate a vivid, immersive environment. With the guidance of Brighton’s Caldera, the journey continues with Süss Choc. The reverb-laden synth plucks on ‘evoke water droplets, and hallucinatory details echo around them to create the illusion of being in a mountainous cove.

Delay Grounds – an audiophile in the truest sense of the word – is next to take the baton. Together, he and Yushh take it up a notch on ‘Telomere’ – a full-bodied club-ready track packed with glitchy chords and giddy drums. A gnarly, Pariah-esque breakdown segues into the track’s second wind where pitched-up vocal chops accelerate it to the compilation’s energetic climax. With the help of London drum specialist, Syz, ‘Fuzbidun’ keeps our feet firmly on the dancefloor. Breakbeats are chopped and rearranged, flitting between double and half time whilst a distorted mid-bass roughens things round the edges, prepping the ground for the compilation’s move to a more inorganic feel.

Bristol don, Forever, joins Yushh next on ‘Passing Notes’ – a groove-driven club track where skittish percussion ricochets from side to side, so palpable it tempts the touch. ‘Crash Bash Party At BUFOs’ is no different. The link-up between Delay Grounds and dance music’s stalwart of musique concrète, Wordcolour, is completely idiosyncratic to both artists: the perfect combination of found-sound percussion and skillfully rehashed vocal samples. It’s up to two PD mainstays – Roy Mills and Human Resources – to close proceedings. A chugging rhythm bubbles under the surface of ‘Sycophantasy’, sending us on a dubbed-out trip before picking the pace back up again.

We welcome Toronto-based producer, DJ and Parallel Minds label co-founder @ciel_dj to the !K7 fam with her debut Orlando EP - coming 15 September.

The Xi’an-born artist’s ascendant profile has seen her cutting-edge and club-ready EPs released on UK labels Peach Discs and Coastal Haze, as well as Stateside imprints Spectral Sound and Mister Saturday Night. As a member of the renowned collective Discwoman and the creator of femme-forward party Work in Progress Ciel’s thoughtful narratives are clear, running in parallel to the perception-altering sounds that are consistently woven deeply into her wide-ranging sets, beloved mixes and inventive collaborations.

The first track Scenes From a Marriage – a nuanced critique of the modern rite of union, moving through structured chapters, and mirroring the unstatic nature of longtime love – is out now.

For their ninth release, Redstone Press welcomes Tano to the roster, accompanied by remixes from Toumba & Delay Grounds. Having all embarked on making music around the same time and connecting through sharing said music, it felt only fitting to bring them together for this release.

Delay Grounds' remix of "Blend of Poetry" closes out the EP, taking it to new stratospheric heights. Elemental staccato synths hover above expertly balanced drums and bass, reaching a fever pitch of ecstatic euphoria. Through the subtle introduction of airy percussion, the track culminates in a classic, tranced-out breakdown adorned with bright luminescent horns and pulsating sub-bass.

For their ninth release, Redstone Press welcomes Tano to the roster, accompanied by remixes from Toumba & Delay Grounds. Having all embarked on making music around the same time and connecting through sharing said music, it felt only fitting to bring them together for this release.

Drawing inspiration from Room two at Freerotation, Tano’s “10-11 EP” channels a slow-burning energy and gradually intensifies into an exhilarating frenzy. The EP's title track sets the stage with meticulously crafted subs and kicks, building anticipation for the explosive main bass hook. The driving drums and metallic guttural utterings heighten the sense of apocalyptic drama that unfolds throughout. Take heed, this one is primed and ready for the system!

Toumba masterfully takes the essence of "10-11" and flips it on its head while preserving the raw, untamed energy of the original. Clocking in at 90 BPM, the remix maintains a steady canter, employing syncopated and percussive rhythms, along with rolling and bubbling sub-bass stabs. Elements from the source material are flawlessly incorporated, showcasing Toumba's distinctive style and exceptional ear for intricate drum patterns, all leading towards an inevitable pressure release.

In "Blend Of Poetry," Tano showcases his prowess for crafting off-kilter basslines and captivating synth melodies. Originally intended as a B-side for "10-11," this track stands confidently on its own. It weaves together a barrage of rapid-fire percussion, languid and hypnotic sub-bass and gripping atmospheric elements, resulting in a compelling and electrifying late-night joyride.

‘Everything Merged’ is 3024’s second series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program. At the beginning of the pandemic, label owner Martyn started forming a lively online community of artists, providing them with ideas and inspiration. This community grew larger and larger, and musicians started to connect both online and offline, across continents and genres. It resulted in the “It Was Always There” series of compilations in 2021, as well as countless independent releases, radio appearances and gigs, putting a host of artists on the map.

Working on the program made Martyn and partner Jeroen Erosie reconsider the purpose of running a record label in 2022. ‘Are we still interested in putting out records via the usual channels?’ Or should a label become more of an umbrella for various activities by a larger community, both online and IRL, with digital and physical products, in other words merge everything into one.

“Everything Merged vol. 2” features both artists debuting their first tracks on a label as well as mainstays of core local scenes like London, NYC, SF and Berlin. From the percussive mastery of Sister Zo, Arcane Prospect and Manchester's DR MYSTERY to the sly techno mutations of Kudeki, Clay Wilson and Pino Peña, this collection highlights the wide variety of sounds and influences inhibiting the current electronic scene. Especially check out the post-pando exuberance of uuklyph, Henry Kerins and Padua and the bass mutations of Dutch duo TMSV & Case, Kenji Ko, Ragdy and Rex the Bard!

This VA brings together electronic artists from around the world, united in solidarity with the people of Gaza. In the face of silence and inaction from our governments, we believe it’s our responsibility, as artists and human beings, to contribute however we can.

SawtPalestine is an independent association founded by Ahmed Jome, a Palestinian based in Marseille, with the mission of building a bridge between Gaza and the World. Their work focuses on supporting orphans and displaced families in Gaza, especially those with no contact or aid from the outside.

On the ground, a local team operates daily to provide direct financial, emotional, and recreational support to children and families in need. Long-term, SawtPalestine aims to build an orphanage.
Since its creation, the association has also launched a traveling Palestinian kitchen, collaborated with activist networks and artists from different fields, and organized events to raise awareness of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
