Making an auspicious fire in a clean vessel or burner, burn aromatic woods, resins, medical plants, the three white and three sweet substances, (yogurt, milk and butter; sugar, molasses and honey) and all kinds of incense and powder—whatever you have available, and sprinkle it with pure water.

“Riwo Sangchö རི་བོ་བསང་མཆོད་ or literally ‘Mountain Smoke Offering’, is a terma that was hidden by Guru Rinpoche and revealed in the seventeenth century by the great yogin and tertön Lhatsün Namkha Jikmé (1597-1653), who brought the Dharma to Sikkim, as part of the profound Dharma-cycle of Rigdzin Sokdrup, ‘Accomplishing the Life-Force of the Vidyadharas’. It is the most famous practice of sang offering in Tibetan Buddhism. From the many ways, elaborate or condensed, of doing this practice, Dudjom Rinpoche composed an abbreviated version for daily practice; this is what is followed by the Rigpa sangha.”

This rendition of the Shakyamuni mantra came out from the meeting of three friends who had in common, deep admiration for Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, & through him for Siddhartha Gautama. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Bhutanese genre called 'Zhungdra', this recording was done in a bedroom overlooking Thimphu valley, and was powered by Bhutanese rice and chillies.
