Switzerlands biggest city Zurich has become one of the clubbing capitols in Europe, a fact which some local DJs also can take some credit for, such as Ray Douglas. At the start of the century, during a time when most clubs were strictly focussing on one musical genre, he brought Open Format mixing to many venues.
Quickly after starting his career, Douglas was spotted by the owners of the famous high class club Indochine, where he played with many artists he now refers to as influences, such as Cut Killer, Armand van Helden, DJ Scene, DJ Vice or Vandalism. Star guests as Kanye West, Kelis, Jamiroquai, Diddy, Dennis Rodman or Beyonce enjoyed his sets there as well.
Constantly improving his skills and widening his musical spectrum, Douglas was booked by almost every major club of the country, and due to his sets with many internationally renowned DJs, he was recommended in other countries as well and played at venues as Cabaret (Moscow), Ulus 29 (Istanbul), Baby (Munich), Chinawhite (London) or Just Cavalli (Milan). In 2012 alone, Douglas played over 130 gigs.
By 2013, Ray Douglas is a reference in Switzerland when it comes to combining different styles of music, from classic Disco or HipHop to Deep House and contemporary dance music and beyond. Being able to please young crowds at big room venues as Zurichs Kaufleuten equally well as sophisticated guests at company events or exclusive parties such as „A Night At The Dolder Grand“, Douglas got nominated for the "Swiss Nightlie Award" three times in a row in the past three years as “Best Open Format DJ”.
