I’m the little sister, always looking low,
Two round buns like Mickey Mouse, they follow where I go.
Drawn like a fancy letter, curled and kind of neat,
Quiet on the paper, but I’ve got a steady beat.

My brother loves the spotlight, he sings up high and loud,
With flutes and shiny violins, he’s playing for the crowd.
But I’m the one who rumbles, where the deeper voices play,
The tuba and the cello keep the music on its way.

I’m your little sister, down below the song,
I keep the music moving, I help it roll along.
You may not always see me, but the truth is clear and sweet:
Without my lower heartbeat, the tune is incomplete.

I’m quiet but I’m needed, hear the left hand on the keys,
The bass guitar, the drumbeat, the buzzing bumblebees.
I hum a soft foundation, I’m gentle but I’m strong,
I’m the little sister, keeping rhythm all day long.

With two small dots beside me, like a secret wink, you know.
