Blaq Soul "Vision (Original Mix)" Deeper Shades Recordings

GOGO Music starts classy into 2014 with the third single from "Joseph Junior & MAQman" released on the label and appositely titled "Can't Do Without It". This time Joseph and MAQman come up with a sweet song, which is slightly deeper than their first two outings. With strong remix treatments from Sir LSG, Jonathan Meyer and Rune this song ought to repeat the success of the duos previous singles.

UK born singer / songwriter Joseph Junior grew up on a musical diet combining Classic Soul, Disco, Afro Beat and some Jazz, too. All aforementioned impacted his superior song-writing and helped him create a very own vocal style. Thanks to his skills and love for Soul Joseph firstly made himself a name in the UK Neo-Soul scene. Invitations to work alongside big guns such as Omar, Roachford, Mica Paris, Jocelyn Brown and Gwen McCrae followed. When he started to work with MAQman on Soulful House Music, a whole new world for him opened which he ever since enriches with his meaningful songs.

MAQman is an eclectic music producer and DJ residing currently in Vietnam. He started out with soulful down- and mid-tempo tracks, but soon focused on House Music. Next to his regular cohort Joseph Junior he worked with vocalists like Selina Campbell with who he landed in the USA Dance Top 40 instantly with their first release some years ago. The debut release of MAQman on GOGO Music named "I Don't See Love", was a seductive and meaningful vocal tune, which scored the rare and most wanted 10/10 mark in the renowned House Magazine 5 (Chicago). His second outing on GOGO Music "No Better Love" came in August 2012 and Spirit of House (Switzerland) stated: "Another definite moment in Soulful House history". As a DJ he currently plays at various residencies in Saigon and can regularly be found travelling for gigs in Asia and beyond, as well as with a monthly mix on the GOGO Music Radioshow, broadcasted to date by more than 50 Radio stations and internet-stations around the globe.

Sir LSG is by now definitely no stranger for any GOGO Music follower or House Music lovers anymore. After debuting on the label with "Sax In The City" in 2010 the career of the talented South African took off. Since then he delivered various celebrated remixes on our imprint and other well known labels. Nowadays he is counted beyond the most exciting producers of the motherland at a comparatively young age. His latest outing "All I Am" featured Brian Temba & Kafele and effortlessly repeated the success of "Sax In The City". It is celebrated by critics, reached top sales positions on Traxsource and success on radio stations in South Africa and globally. The release stayed many weeks on Kaya FM's Top 40, hit #1 in January 2014 on R2000 and was for example featured on UK's Solar Radio chart, too. Sir LSG's remix for "Can't Do Without It" proves again his ability to take the listener into his very own sonic space.

The release last autumn of Reel People’s first full studio album in 10 years was, it’s fair to say, a moment. Retroflection stylishly recreated soul, disco and boogie classics behind the collective’s formation nearly 20 years ago and exposed its rarefied DNA like never before. Now band leader Oli Lazarus widens the collective, inviting the world’s finest producers and remixers to add their funky splices to the Retroflection blueprint. Retroflection Remixed, featuring Mousse T., Osunlade, DJ Spinna, John Morales, Atjazz, Terry Hunter, Sebb Junior, Scott Diaz, Da Brownie, Tall Black Guy, Matt Cooper’s OUTSIDE, BusCrates and Art Of Tones, is a majestic rebooting of the soulful flow that swept us away in 2018.
	
Art Of Tones get’s his sparkly mitts on Don’t Stop The Music, swaggering synth ‘n’ bass riffs further underlining Angie Stone’s classy strut through Yarbrough & People’s 1980 hit, whilst Buscrates – true to the name of his remix – pumps irresistible funk bounce into I’m In Love, a truly lowdown re-skinning of Reel People’s Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King tribute where Navasha Daya’s vocal sounds sassier than ever.

Osunlade eases us in with an elegant re-interpretation of Reel People’s Pleasure cover Joyous, deep throbs of electronica and rippling percussion carrying loops of the vocal and that iconic sax solo to stunning new heights – or depths. Similarly, Atjazz dims the lights and intensifies the mood for his take on Twilight. Where Reel People played impressively close to Maze’s original, Atjazz treads to shuffling jazz drums, double-bass and piano. The build of parts is spine-tingling stuff. Matt Cooper and his outstanding OUTSIDE project also take on the mantle of Joyous, and serve us a full fat disco jazz funk odyssey.

There are a number of uptempo treats too. Take Sebb Junior’s snappy piano-house routine for the Mica Paris-fronted I Want To Thank You – a sparkling turbo-charge to Alicia Myers’ early Eighties gospel-R&B vibe – or NYC mix legend John Morales’ ecstatic nine-minute mirrorball twirl of Geraldine Hunt-anthem Can’t Fake The Feeling complete with epic drum and vocal (Daya once again) breakdowns. Respected UK house DJ-producer Scott Diaz gives the Sharlene Hector-led cover of Side Effect’s Always There greater guitar-licked urgency but without compromise to the song’s soulful poise and power, and revered Chicago veteran Terry Hunter is a match made in heaven for Tony Momrelle, who soars through the former’s soulfully-charged remix of Buttercup (Carl Anderson’s mid-Eighties, Stevie Wonder-penned gem) with all of its funky drums, b-line twists and warm musical arrangements. German maestro Mousse T. hands us a nostalgic rework of Teena Marie’s I Need Your Lovin’  featuring the female powerhouses Vulu Malinga, LaDonna Harley-Peters and Sharlene Hector.

Elsewhere, South African talent Da Brownie dresses Reel People’s peppy, Omar-fronted update of Skipworth & Turner treasure Thinking About Your Love in sharp, finely-detailed deep dance threads, and Detroit star Tall Black Guy (TBG) sprinkles considerable amounts of summer samba magic over Momrelle’s other Retroflection outing Can We Pretend - a stunning re-awakening of the Bill Withers and Jose Feliciano collabo for the second time in mere months. There’s room yet for DJ Spinna to expand the reaches of Keep It Up (Anthony David’s luscious rendition of Milton Wright’s deep-soul bomb) with another of his transcendental space-funk remixes. Mind-blowing.

Born in Switzerland, MAQman (pronounce mack-man) started music playing the keys with live bands. His production influence derives mainly from black music classics, which MAQman is collecting and playing since 1999. After joint outings on various Soul compilations with down- and mid tempo tracks, he soon focused on House Music and it was inevitable that his musical path had to cross with Germany’s flagship Deep House label GOGO Music in 2011, where he had 8 Single releases until now. He also signed numerous songs on labels such as Makin' Moves, Tony Records and more. He relocated to his homeland Vietnam, where he continues to work with well chosen musicians, which help him to ensure that his sound stays organic and rich at any time. Adding on his gigs schedule as an appreciated DJ in the underground community, MAQman is also a monthly resident on the GOGO Music Radio Show, which is broadcasted by more than 45 FM- and internet-stations around the globe! This residency brought him the opportunity in June 2019 to be invited on a South African 5 day dj tour, where he played in Johannesburg, Durban and Captown.
