The Way Forward by Teresa Schreiber Werth

This is a piece I wrote in 2018 for a reading at Rochester Spoken Word. It talks about all the places, languages, sounds and smells, light and music that are a part of me – fragments of memories and sensations that come together in mystifying ways and make us who we are. It’s stunning to think of how much diversity there is on our planet, how many worlds within worlds. So much to discover and share.

Multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker Mara Ahmed joins Gianna Volpe on the WLIW-FM Heart of The East End for the Friday Morning Tea underwritten by Village Overhead Doors ahead of the screening of her documentary, “Return To Sender: Women of Color in Colonial Postcards & the Politics of Representation” at Southampton Arts Center this Sunday at 2 pm with a post-screening panel afterward with Ahmed, Brenda Simmons of the Southampton African American Museum, Jeremy Dennis of Ma’s House BIPOC Arts Center and Minerva Perez of OLA of Eastern Long Island.
