1 - CAMBIO DE PERSPECTIVA

Splendor Solis ("The Splendour of the Sun") is a version of the illuminated alchemical text attributed to Salomon Trismosin. This version dates from around 1582.

The earliest version, written in Central German, is dated 1532–1535 and is part of the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin collection at the State Museums in Berlin. It is illuminated on vellum, with decorative borders like a book of hours, meticulously painted and highlighted with gold. The later copies in London, Kassel, Paris and Nuremberg are equally fine. Twenty versions exist worldwide.

The original of Splendor Solis, which contained seven chapters, appeared in Augsburg. In miniatures the works of Albrecht Dürer, Hans Holbein and Lucas Cranach were used. The author of the manuscript was considered to be the legendary Salomon Trismosin, allegedly the teacher of Paracelsus, though the name is believed to be a pseudonym. The work consists of a sequence of 22 elaborate images, set in ornamental borders and niches. The symbolic process shows the classical alchemical death and rebirth of the king, and incorporates a series of seven flasks, each associated with one of the then-known planets. Within the flasks a process is shown involving the transformation of bird and animal symbols into the Queen and King, the white and the red tincture. Although the style of the Splendor Solis illuminations suggest an earlier date, they are clearly of the 16th century.

Hi and welcome to the 5th track by "Then She Reaches For The Gun". Huge thanks to all the artists involved…. so much variety, craziness, originality and musicianship.

The project’s inspiration is two fold: Firstly its a homage to some of the stuff i grew up listening to like Mr. Bungle and other noisy bastards where anything goes, and often in quick fire succession and secondly it’s a chance to work with an never ending stream of talented musicians that i have known for years either in real life Australia or via the Internet. Each track has changed of course, depending of who has sent me what.

Its starting point was a wonderful field recording sent to me by Raöulfr Maganhar of him teaching Flamenco singing to his cat Yoda and his dog  Hacho, its gorgeous and hilarious as both respond vocally. The madness organically expanded either side of the file from there.

The process is simple, I collect a bunch of random recordings from people and then see what i can arrange from it. Nothing subtle here, just huge noisy fun : ) I am open to anyone that thinks they might like to be part of this mess. Drop me a message and i will send you my email. The only criteria is that i wont be using samples from TV/film/other music etc, so just original stuff played on instruments, field recordings, stupid drunk conversations etc.

This is a something in between a re-mix and a re-make of an old montage piece based on recordings of electrostatic generators that I made in Teylers Museum (Haarlem), and sounds I designed around that. The piece was left out of the actual series of pieces ('Beauty Sleepers') performed there as part of the Toon festival in 2001. The re-make/re-model version was made in loving dedication to my father who passed away on January 24th 2022.

I drift on the ocean, immerse into the full,
in schools of fish searching colors, which the garment still lacks,
drinking the stream of life, from above and below, from anywhere:
comes on me, hissing.
A swarm at the back, my feet in the mud,
the head leaning against the wall, the night becomes day, 
picks the balloon from the sky and light explodes in the spray.
Life foams over, and I lean back thirsty,
push the back against the seat back, enjoy the drive, the ride.

Collect my blueprints
Count past and possible future into the void.
I was enclosed, zeroed in.
What’s it to the dance? Puzzle of many splinters,
Some penetrate and fester, are source.
I open doors, close doors, so many rooms,
In each one birth, death, sins, knowledge.

I allow myself, believe myself, sue me for myself

On the trip knowing that these quiet inside calls 
are still related to the loud rushing outside,
That the cosmos outside well-known to the inner sea opens dreams  
you see hidden worlds finally unfold, finally contain you,

One morning which taps blue at the window
opens your desire for the delicious and the secret,
you saddle your horse with the bubbly of the night,
which leans your dream into the day, and you do not know why,
you put on your fanciest cap, turn around and say, "Wonderful!".
You flip the line off, which still hangs on the house,
Throw down the anchor, which still holds you, you mount the horse.
So covetous, so great your thirst for world that nothing can hold you any more
and pure urge for life flows through your veins, you bunk off.

Lust for this foaming, overwhelming exploding in-all-directions,
parading your loudest, wildest and most beautiful,
equipping you with boots that jump over mountains.
You look, on which mountains you were grounded, which horns crowned you,
which valley tied your foot to shade
and seek expanse, gravity, your imploding.
You finally celebrate your luminous ride !!!!!!
