Mafia Mike & Kubinowski are back on SpekuLLa Records! After their strong debut on Culture Tone Recordings with the "Earth EP" and a successful release on Deepalma Records, the duo teams up once again to deliver a stunning new take on a timeless classic.

This time they reinterpret cover of Crystal Waters' iconic house anthem "Gypsy Woman" with a fresh and modern twist. Mafia Mike known for his long-standing production craft, brings in catchy keys and soulful organ hooks, while together they blend afro grooves, deep atmospheres, and techy textures.

The result? A powerful and refreshing version that pays respect to the original while making it ready for today's dancefloors.

Why do we tell stories?

We breathe, we eat, we sleep. We seek connection. These are our basic human needs.

But there is one more need we all share, and it centres on stories. All across the world, stories are being recounted everywhere, in every imaginable way, at any given time. For telling stories is at the very essence of what it is to be human.

The universe of stories can be broken down into seven basic plots which underlie all stories ever told. Recognising these patterns is the gateway to unravelling the universal symbolic language from which all storytelling is spun.

With The Quest, Chapter 24 returns with seven stories in sound collected from artists across the world to bring these themes to life.

NHAR (My Favorite Robot, Correspondant) is a consummate storyteller, and he opens the book with the glistening space tech of 'Navigli'. This is quickly followed up by newcomer Dan Grassler, whose superb 'Going Back' with US vocalist KnowKontrol is powerfully brooding and promises great things for the Munich-based producer.

The momentum picks up further with the standout 'Over My Head', a dark and delicious cut from two returning Chapter 24 artists, Alex Zed and Billie Fountain.

The label welcomes Teho and Machino for their inaugural releases on the imprint. Frenchman Teho (Herzblut, Parquet) serves up a double helping of delight with the skilfully crafted 'Back To The Forest' and the tense tech house of 'Drunken Leads'. Meanwhile, Machino (Desert Hearts), one of a new wave of Tijuana-based producers, showcases his unique blend of potent techno and ambient influences on 'Perdidos'.

Finally, Melodule and Van Did bring the tales to a close with 'Téou 12', a dreamy, abstract piece that showcases wonky basslines, drifting pads and engaging sound design.

They say that there are only seven basic plots but a thousand different stories.

And so, as the storyteller utters that age old, magical phrase "Once upon a time...", let yourself be carried away…

Seven Stories: The Quest {feat. NHAR, Teho, Van Did, Machino and more}

PREMIERE: Machino - Perdidos [Chapter 24]

Coming straight from the Spanish underground is the Valencia-based producer known under the name of Upercent which is the newest member of the Upon.You Records family. Backed by a history including releases and remixes on labels like Sincopat, Suruba and Moda Black since he made his first appearance on the production circuit in 2013 this young and hungry artist is more than just a diamond in the rough and his „Penumbra EP“ is surely aiming directly at the heart of the dancefloor.The opener „Gent Dement“ draws all punters attention due to the use of a unique, slightly metallic drum foundation that's perfectly fused with score-like atmospheres of Morricone'esque qualities, projecting pictures of desolate, abandoned council estates onto our inner minds screen even before the male vocals fully endorse this track as the starting point of a dystopian, futuristic amalgamation of TechHouse and Inner City Blues. With „El Tornejant“ the Spaniard unveils the dreamier, more melodic side of his work catering an ever floating, oneiric scheme later accompanied by resolute, well-muscular drums, spiralling synths and damp, eerie, mystical sonic mists that are taking us to the very core of ancient ritualisms.
Following up is „Gent Toxina“, another deep TechHouse tune for the small hours. Weighing in melodic, yet again mystic, haunting synth works on the lower end of the sonic spectrum, crystalline abstractions and even a playful, uplifting flute motif this tune unfolds its inherent magic best if rolled out over the full playtime of a little less than 7 minutes.
Finally we see „Penumbra“, the title track of this EP, presenting a perfect balance of dark'ish tension, soft,romantic piano chords and a melancholia-inducing hint of Jazz Noir, mixing these influences up with a little bit of a DeepHouse and expertly cut vocals vibe to create a sweet tune to dance away to on a warm, yet rainy sunday afternoon.
