For his upcoming performance at Pleinvrees, as well as Ibiza's darker Techno ONYX event, Berlin-native Fritz Kalkbrenner provides an exclusive mixtape of deep instrumentation.

Recently releasing his newest and third album "Ways Over Water", Fritz Kalkbrenner hardly needs an introduction as his unique style has been a defining one in Berlin. He emerged from of the shadows of the socialist prefab buildings in the Lichtenberg district of Berlin - and has ever since strived to perfect his interpretation of cold electro into warm, deep melodic electronic music. Throughout the summer, he'll be playing ONYX at Space Ibiza, a dark techno party that will host a variety of top-notch acts such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Ambivalent, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Monika Kruse, Redshape, Surgeon, and many more.

Coming in September, Fritz Kalkbrenner will be taking his craft to the wildly colorful Pleinvrees Festival - a day driven by a passion for melodic house music inspired from a variety of music styles. Originally beginning in 2010 as a simple Queens Day event in Amsterdam, Pleinvrees has grown and developed its wildly crafty aesthetic. First things first, though, Fritz will be at ONYX tonight!

A beach, temperature of about 25 degrees, clear sky, cold drinks, an amazing crowd and a fantastic sound system - that´s all you need for a fantastic night outdoor. 

What a night to remember when I was playing in Batumi / Georgia. This was the night when the coup happened in Turkey. Afterwards all airports and borders were closed but lucky me caught some flights back to Europe two days after.

Well, here´s the mix. I hope you´ll enjoy it.

1. Wie hat Corona euer Künstlerleben verändert?

Es hat meinen ganzen Alltag sehr verändert. Seit fünf Jahren bin ich eigentlich konstant am Wochenende auf Tour. Dies fällt seit März komplett weg und fühlt sich mit der Zeit schon eigenartig an. Mir fehlt der Vibe, das gemeinsame Zelebrieren von Musik und das ganze Drumherum. Doch ich versuche Positives aus dem Ganzen zu ziehen, arbeite an verschiedenen Projekten, für die ich sonst keine Zeit hätte, und kümmere mich wieder mehr um meine Freunde und Familie. Das ist auf jeden Fall eine schöne Sache, die mir gut tut und Kraft gibt.

2. Wo habt ihr diesen Mix aufgenommen? Wie ging es euch dabei?

Sehr gut ging es mir dabei. Neben Streams, habe ich verhältnismäßig lange keinen Podcast mehr aufgenommen und gerade hatte ich mal wieder richtig das Bedürfnis die ganzen Songs, die ich in den letzten Monaten gesammelt habe, zusammenzumischen. Das Ganze ist bei mir im Wohnzimmer entstanden.

3. Was wünscht ihr euch für die Zeit nach oder mit Corona?

Ich bezweifle, dass es in absehbarer Zeit eine "Zeit nach Corona" geben wird. Wir müssen lernen mit dem Virus zu leben und ich wünsche mir Konzepte, die es trotz Corona möglich machen Veranstaltungen durchzuführen. Die Leute brauchen Begegnungen und die Veranstaltungsbranche wieder Arbeit.

With “Nava” and “Bob” Monkey Safari present their first single release on Ritter Butzke Records.

Riding in with the power to deliver sunshine to world’s rainiest open-air events, Monkey Safari brings rays of light to whatever dance floors they cast their shimmering spell on. 

Developing and tailoring a sound suited perfectly for the unique club nuances while still keeping the core elements of melodic chords and grooves synonymous is the foundation of the duos productions.

Their track “Nava” soon develops it's indigenous touch with positive bongo rhythms and trilling panpipes. A meditative synth with an carefully calibrated delay complements the spiritual setting for a rapé ceremony with the groove of a long night's ritual dance.

Eerie Pads combined with a drifty stab rhythm and reverb lashing vocal stabs set the foundation for “Bob”. Adorned with jazzy chords this one is perfectly tailored for moody open airs, sunrises and sunsets.
