Forma’s recent live performance for venerated Montreal-based digital festival MUTEK.

Forma stems from the union of Juan Hansen & Pablo Bursztyn as an experimental electronic duo based in Buenos Aires.Genre and style, considered as the form of music, are Forma’s materiality. Ever expanding its boundaries, Forma subverts the listeners expectations. Juan’s electronic background fuses with the experimental spirit of Pablo’s musical search to create an eclectic trip exhausting one mood at a time. Forma makes their intentions known from the off, as they take the listener on an emotive and harmonic smoke-screened journey accented by warped synthesisers, haunting vocals and a playful mixture of subdued four-four beats and elastic rhythmic triplets. Toying with aural imperfections and melodic disarray throughout, Forma’s work honours emotional ambiguity and harmonic dissonance, cultivating a sound that can be equally euphoric as it can be melancholic. Within this ambiguity, Forma find a place to liberate themselves from instrumental boundaries, creating landscapes that value coincidence, intriguing sound choices and a degree of sonic unpredictability.

3 QUESTIONS to UPERCENT:

Q: Diynamic, Sincopat, Upon.You. Just to name a few of the recent labels you´re releasing on. The sky seems to be the limit? What´s next? Any more producer goals to reach? 

A: Maybe the sky is the limit, it's nice to dream but you need to have your personal goals, and currently I like when they are big. I have prepared a few EPs and remixes for 2018 which will be out on Kompakt, Monaberry and Watergate among others. I always have goals in my mind and I’m working hard to reach them! 

Q: Talking about your epic mix. How did these tracks find the way to your case?

A: The mix is a short tour of my life, most of it is like the BSO, some others are with me since the day I was born, I think they are like part of my DNA (laughing)

Q: What´s your favorite setup for producing?

A: Well, since a lot of years I'm working with Logic Pro, I like this program because I feel that I'm not attached to a strict rhythm like other programs I have tried. Most of the percussions are recorded with a small Tascam, and the more important pieces are my old synths without MIDI, they are the mainstay of my studio!
