Hungarian artist MULYA joins the TAU family for his debut outing with the ‘Highlife’ EP. A relative newcomer to the scene, he made quite a splash with his first ever release ‘Marvin’, which dropped on MoBlack in 2017. Since then he’s maintained the standards set by that first release, with a consistent flow of new music on labels like Sum Over Histories and Multinotes. Now he steps up for TAU with four fresh new cuts.

The title track gets MULYA’s debut EP rolling... ‘Highlife’ eases us in with a smooth, considered intro gradually building the tension. It’s emotive, dour and alluring. MULYA’s ability to write emotionally-charged melodies is clear from the off. A short breakdown introduces the main, whimsical riff and the track takes on a whole new identity. A goosebump-inducing track that will set dancefloors alight.

Up next ‘Rush’ takes us into an unsettling world of darkness and malevolence. A quivering bassline leads us slowly into the main part of the track. Energy building as an Arabian sounding wind instrument sounds off like a siren. As we enter the scintillating breakdown MULYA unleashes the energy that has been bubbling under since the very first note. One to send chills down your spine and a highlight of Adana Twins’ recent Cercle show and countless dj sets.

‘Whisperer’ has a stepping break which keeps things moving in the low end, while the atmospherics cast a spell on your inner dancer. MULYA delivers an exceptional arrangement, telling a captivating story with the electronic voices he is controlling. As with the previous two cuts, there’s a moment of pure exhilaration that explodes and sends the listener into an ecstatic state.

Lastly, ‘Orson’ closes the EP. It has punchy beats, enchanting layers of synth and a melody constructed using a vocal sample. Eerie, moving and full of vigour ‘Orson’ gives us one last reason to put our hands in the air and get teleported up into the heavens.

Just a few months after EdOne purveyed his own reinterpretation to
Ivory & Auggie’s leaden prototype, demonstrating a fine
comprehension of “Basic Rhythm,” he returns on MoBlack Records,
now alongside Martin HERRS, and INVŌKER on remix duties, with
“Tatalina.” On A side, the Spaniards delicately unfold a poignant
sojourn that wanders and diffuses the rims of isolation and
belonging. The tender, 6:28 minute aural escapade starts off with a
simple ingress, pummeled by an inquisitive bassline into a gripping
melodic procession. Tatalina escalates to a euphoric stillness
transcended by haunting piano chords, but breaks free when
intermittently disrupted by deep synthetic pulsations, evoking the
frailty of memory and vulnerability of emotion.
French rising star INVŌKER deploys his empowered rendition of the
title track, pulling a bit less feeling from emotion and a little more
feeling from sense. Tension and groove pull and reverb in this
particular tug of play, where space is dark, energy is incandescent
and the texture of sound is moist and locomotive. MB384 sits in the
juncture of memory, motion and emotion, a pursuit of that fleeting
moment that is only present in one instant, as well as an attempt to
prolong its existence through sound.

Brian Cid’s Endangered Records presents the debut of Steve Fokas to the label, with a 6-track journey through the realm of melodic techno.

Steve Fokas hails from the city of Philadelphia in the U.S., with family origins from the Greek Islands. A multi-instrumentalist, self-taught musician & producer, he fell in love with electronic music immediately after discovering his true potential in it. Since then, Brian Cid has been working closely with Steve and his music to prepare his debut release as an artist: “I’ve known Brian for quite some time now and I always loved the early Endangered work he used to show me when we were in the studio together” says Steve. “I resonated a lot with those sounds and how bold the tracks were and he most definitely influenced me and pushed me to not shy away from creating exactly what I want to create and allowing my natural vibrations shine through.”

The title track “Prophet” is the opener in Steve’s debut, and in true Endangered style, contains cinematic builds with waves of synths coming at the listener to start things off. “Leo” follows, and its melody, groove, and claps give it a Latin-style vibe perfect for when the sun is retreating for the day. Elements of darkness appear in the third track “Estrela”, which is equally effective on a dance floor, or cruising around at night, with its driving, arpeggiated synths. The energy rises with the kick & hi hat groove in “Neptune”, and deep & dark tension is created with the lead melody. The apex of this story is reached during “Meteora”, with its deep synth stabs building the energy to reach the peak of the party with full power. “Vision” is the finale, and provides closure by dialling back on the energy, and focusing on the melody to close this chapter.

Steve discusses his thoughts on releasing on Endangered, as well as his EP: “Endangered taps into something deeper and more natural and Prophet is a perfect reflection of the deeper more natural styles of music I was feeling during these solitary first few months of quarantine. The tracks are minimal and intense at times which I think reflects how this forced isolation has felt for many of us. The dreamy melodic synths give those intense moments a bit of hopefulness which comes from all of the day dreaming I've done about the moment we can finally get back to "normal."
