If folk, roots, and Americana were on a Venn diagram, Grace Morrison would be squarely in the center.  With a career that began as a backup singer for rock icons like Eddie Money and Joey Molland (of the band Badfinger), Grace has become a regular on the national festival and touring circuit. She has won a number of prestigious awards including the Grand Prize of the New England Songwriting Competition and the WPRI Rhode Show Big Break contest where her music video was played on the season finale of American Idol.  In 2019 Grace was selected to be an Official Showcase performer at the Southeast Regional Folk Alliance, an Alt. Official Showcase Performer at the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance, named a finalist in the Wildflower (TX) Festival performing singer-songwriter contest, and selected to perform in the Emerging Artist Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY). Her sophomore solo album “Reasons" was released on May 10thand debuted the # 2 Top Album on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Contemporary Country Airplay Chart.

Both of my parents were musicians and I have many relatives who were also. I am named after my great-grandmother Irene who was a singer. I  started singing in the church at my private school St. John's as a child. The first song I 
remember learning was “Jesus loves the little children ". I started taking piano lessons on the third grade with my Irish twin sister Patsy but I was more into it than sh was. The following year our grand parents came to our house asking us what we wanted for Christmas. We grew up without a television and so we would think about what we wanted for Christmas to keep us from getting bored at home. My father bought me a purple portable radio with a cassette
 tape player in 2nd grade for making straight A's in school.  I started listening to the radio and recording me and my sister singing with the tape player. In a way, like my sister would say I was "obsessed" with recording.  When Christmas came around I thought long and hard about what I wanted and told our grandparents that I wanted a keyboard and a bike.  Then they asked my sister what she wanted and she said she wanted a keyboard and a bike also. That Christmas my grandparents bought me and my sister matching purple and white bikes and a keyboard. The keyboard had functions to plat all different kinds of beats and instruments. I started using the keyboard to play beats of different songs on the radio and we would make up our own words and record them on taps with the cassette player.  I would bug my sister constantly to sing with me while I made beats while recording them.  She always tells a story about when she was tired of "recording" all the time so one Sunday I woke her up saying we were lat for school. She frantically got up and started getting dressed for school. Then she realized it was Sunday and no school then I told her "I was just kidding, I just wanted to record". She wasn't as into as I was so she quit taking piano lessons and started getting into art which she was very good at. In the 5th grade we both were in the school band she played the flute and I played the clarinet. Our cousin Angelica also was in the band and played the saxophone  Music was always a part of our family so when we were together with our cousins we would practice singing and doing dances to our favorite radio song and perform them for our parents. We had dance competitions and talent shows all of the time. In the 7th grade we started having choir as an option for an elective class. I was very shy and I would walk slowly by the choir class and listen to the other singers hoping one day I could try out. I finally got brave enough in 9th grde to audition for the high school choir. You had to audition in order to be accepted into the class. i always knew I loved to sing but I didn't know if I really could sing or not so I was very nervous.  I auditioned for the symphonic choral by singing the notes played by the piano player in class. I was accepted to the class as a soprano I the highest vocal range for female singers. I started taking voice lessons every week and was in Honors Choir for four years.  l would sing in concerts with the choir and I also started competing in solo and ensemble contests every year. I learned to sing in five languages French, German, Latin and Italian. I went on tour with the choir and had singing recitals at the end of every year. I continued taking singing and guitar lessons after high school by that time I had a guitar and I had been learning how to play it on my own. I started singing and playing guitar at a local coffee shop called the 'Acoustic  Cafe' my friend's mom owned. She played the fiddle and her mom played and they would perform there. On open mic nights I would go and play songs I wrote even though I didn't think I was that good. I have been in many bands since then and I have taken music lessons on and off for the next several years. Then I moved to Austin, Texas after my sister moved there. I joined the songwriters club and continued writing songs and networking. Finally in 2007 after singing for local jazz bands I met an independent Gospel record label called G.T.P. Titanium records. They already had several artists signed on their label including an American Idol winner. The producer and I met and we started talking about music and I told him I was a singer and songwriter. H asked me to help write some songs for the other artists and sing backups on some of their songs. I agreed to do it in exchange for me recording some of my own songs. I recorded a few songs then the label started focusing on film making. I played some small roles in films and my music added to the soundtracks but I wasn't into acting at all so I started pursuing other projects. I started working as a voice lesson teacher for children at Taylor Robinson School of Music. Then I slowly started building up my home studio and joined another band called 2'O Clock famous.  I recorded more songs and we had our C.D. release party in 2010.  they want.  Right after the pandemic ciaos our band Isaac from Seattle became ill and passed away while I was in the process of making arrangements to go see him in the hospital.  I feel music can have healing effects for people and I enjoy making people happy when I get asked to sing for them. I enjoy seeing others succeed and continue to encourage young people who love music to follow their dream. I now own my own record label called Texas Royalty Productions. Jessica Smucker believes that the best way to change the world is to channel our pain into connection. Her songs have a way of reaching deeply into people's souls and inviting the kind of reflection that feels both reassuring and unsettling. Wrapped in catchy melodies, her lyrics appear simple and relatable on the surface, but each listen will uncover more hidden pockets of nuance. She's the kind of writer and performer who can lull a noisy room into a hush with a single line. 

Although Jessica cares deeply about big picture issues like social justice, she tends to write about life's more intimate moments. How it feels to walk through an empty house after love has left it. The difference between carrying a child in the womb and mothering them in the world outside. The particular ways a happy marriage can slide into decline. The simultaneous rush and terror of falling in love. The way humans can hunger for things (like peace on earth, or god) we don't even believe in. The tricks and techniques we all use to shield ourselves from the kinds of knowledge that might lead to pain.

Jessica is based in Lancaster, PA, very near the tiny rural town of Bird-in-Hand where she grew up. Two of her grandparents were born Amish, and she was raised in the Mennonite faith tradition - by a family full of storytellers, activists, adventurers, and pranksters. Although her town was small, the bigger world never seemed out of reach. She felt empowered to engage and explore it.

Jessica has toured nationwide, and performs regularly throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S. She has opened for Cheryl Wheeler, Susan Werner, and Bill Staines, and shared billing with Heather Maloney, Meghan Trainor, and the Stray Birds. Notable venues include the Tin Angel (Philadelphia), Godfrey Daniels (Bethlehem, PA), The Cellar Stage (Baltimore), Steel City Coffeehouse (Phoenixville, PA), World Cafe Live (Philadelphia), Muses in the Vineyard (Belvidere, NJ), Musikfest (Bethlehem, PA), and 30A Songwriters Festival (Santa Rosa Beach, FL). She has won or placed in numerous national songwriting contests including SolarFest's Singer/Songwriter Showcase Competition, the Connecticut Folk Festival Song Competition, and the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. 

Her discography spans from 2008-2020 and includes two EPs and three full-length albums. The Sleeping World (2008), a self-titled EP released by Jessica's first rock band, was recorded by Seventh Wave Studio in Harrisburg, PA. 2010 saw two releases, both recorded in Lancaster, PA basement studios: Reluctantly Yours (EP), a stripped-down acoustic recording featuring mostly piano, violins, and banjo; and This Broken Moment (LP), a full-band album released as Jessica Smucker & The Sleeping World. It wasn't until she started working with producer Chad Kinsey in 2012 that Jessica really found her stride as a recording artist. Tumbling After (2014) was produced by Kinsey and features bassist Mike Bitts (The Innocence Mission), drummer Paul Murr (Jeffrey Gaines, Fauna Flora, Jackie Evancho), and guest vocals by Heather Maloney (appearing courtesy of Signature Sounds Recordings) and Keith Wilson (Movies With Heroes). Lucid Stories, Tentative Lies, recorded with the same production team, dropped in October 2020, followed by an irreverent Christmas single, "Let's Get a Tree" in December.  

In her life beyond music Jessica is a published poet and essayist, a social justice warrior, freakishly good at Scrabble, and mother to two of the smartest people she's ever met in real life.
