Hello. Didn’t have the time yet to make the playlist as it always takes ages but just uploaded yesterday’s show to SoundCloud. 4hour Journey starting Mellow Mellow and it went up up up from there. Apart from loving the music and especially the first hour of soul and R&B, I guess I am also highly entertained myself because I never know what I am gonna do. Each curveball throws me off as much as my audience :) or it doesn’t but it’s always cheeky and good fun. It really happy when people realize what I am doing .. it’s so nice to delve deep into the music with my people @oriab_gram @frankie_lobozz @jaynewinstanley @revolutionsldn @funkymusak @zuzipesko @makreacts @g_luap_ @pretty_tough_tt @brian_reaves and so many more. I owe you because you give me the headspace to explore and go deep and it’s wonderful 🥰
I suppose longer is the way to go for me. At some point it just clicks . It’s to breathe out all the air of your lunges so you can actually fill them up with fresh air altogether. In the Same way I am breathing out the staleness of a year in lockdown and make space for new vibes and inspiration. Instead of standing still and getting rusty I am taking this opportunity to renew myself and fill myself up with music and sounds and vibes and love. I can only offer that you participate and get a slice for yourself. But it’s ok if it stays in our small group as well. I am blessed to have your ears, your time, your Humor, your love. I am chuffed to present my monthly residency on @universalrhythms.radio starting today 7PM UK / 8PM UK alongside loads of great DJs from all over the globe. I feel super inspired as I am basically constantly mixing records at the moment and when I listen back to my mixes I am like: that’s right, that’s exactly what I was trying to do. Congrats Marcel, you are a DJ. Eventually I ll write an essay or a book or a documentary, I have so many thoughts and emotions surrounding that topic. 20 years ago, it was pretty much the dawn of the internet for me, I got my first email adress ( that i still use ) and slowly figured out how to order records via GEMM and perhaps an early EBAY. I have no idea how I ended up finding Million Dollar Disco and BringTheHeat but I did, and thats how I met Zernell, Rahaan, Boogie Nite, Sean Souds, Zaf, LoveOnTheRun and Al Kent of course. 
I wanna say Million Dollar Disco was incredibly sophisticated with articles and mixes and a message board. Even then the man in question had this unsatisfyable obsession with everything disco, strings and horns. I remember his Disco Demands  CD comps that later transitioned into epic releases on BBE, a crazy resource of deep disco and uptempo soul.
Later in when I moved to Berlin we've invited him to play our party LEGACY and even though the turn out wasn't great in 2005, he's played an amazing set. Of course. He leaves very little to chance and always brings the craziest edits of the craziest songs.
Later, we did another party when I had moved to Amsterdam. With more people and more Disco. And two of his edits even made it onto a Lumberjacks 12". 
Since then he's edited, produced, compiled, organized and endless amount of music and parties. 
A stubborn, akward, funny scottish trailblazer who's never betrayed his purest of love for Disco, so much so he's certainly in a league of his own.

Lumberjacks Tapes 026: Al Kent ( Million Dollar Disco )

Pretty much one year ago, I gave in to the urge to pull all my best Gospel records together and make a Gospel Tape to be published right before the holy night. I am not religious albeit spiritual. I am not much into Christmas jams, but I dig the Gospel. And I have my own personal story with Jesus that I might share one day but if you've read Paulo Coelo - The Fifth Mountain, there are certainly paralells. 
Nowadays I believe in the positive ideas of religion that can uplift the spirit. 

But what I am really interested in is Gospel Music. 

These records are like colours to me. Many people are used to experience the same colours over and over again. While there is so much more music to love and fall in love with. Use it as a gateway into other universes. I ve tried that with my twitch series earlier this year. Together we ve just listened through my record collection and we hardly listened to a song twice. I want to shout out Zoe, Jayne, Zuzi, Oria, Angel, Keta, Kelly, Frankie, Josh, Brian, Johnny and many others and Special thanks to Chris and Rob for introducing me to the platform and carrying me through the process. Despite the digital aspect it has been a wonderfully human experience on many levels. 

Thanks for listening and have beautiful holidays, no matter what faith you have or not have. I believe in life as the most precious entity that connects us all.

Lumberjacks Tapes 027: Marcel Vogel - A Spiritual Gospel Mix (21.12.2021)

As promised I ve put up a part of yesterdays recording online. I am making it a point, if not for anybody else than at least for myself to come each Friday with an almost completely new selection of tunes that otherwise simply collect dust. Only a fraction of the music I buy on a regular is actually meant for club context. I think there were times when I did so many mixtapes people gently asked me to stop. There are still many mixes of mine floating about. But that’s how I stay sharp and acquaint myself with the music. It’s been my first love too, Pause tapes on my mothers double tape deck compact stero. I always felt contextualising music by putting it and in front and after other music, sequencing , is one of the most rewarding things to do to elevate one’s experience. You need to listen to these together, coming out of this mood into that mood. And your brain and heart follows.

What was I saying? My recording from @hearthamsterdam yesterday is up and I enjoy listening to my jams a lot. Played from the heart to be shared with joy.
