Your Mama's Friend is back again to tempt us with the forbidden fruit of sleazy beats and warm rounded baselines. To date its been a fully Polish affair, with Viadrina and Chmara Winter joining label boss Marcin Czubala in providing the goods. Today its another debutant, but this time we're leaving the label's homeland as we head to the UK to meet a star on the rise, Resketch. 

Ste Burnett's diverse musical range in both his DJ sets and productions, find him falling somewhere within the swampy bass realm of house, garage and disco. His own productions have been described as having a unique and infectious energy thats driven by a bouncing sub-bass. A perfect fit for Your Mama's Friend wouldn't you say? 

The No District label chief delivers a trio of treats in the form of his "Bound In Binary" ep. Layers of smooth, warm and weighty bass are teased, prodded and pierced by twinkling keys, diva vocals stabs and clear, precise percussion. Quite a debut from this exciting young producer. Watch this space!

Marcin Czubala’s Your Mama’s Friend imprint goes from strength to strength with this, a new EP from Resketch, a producer who has risen through the ranks with fresh house and bubbly productions on labels like Well Rounded and Infinite Machine. 

Getting straight to it, the opening track ‘Yearner’ is a bright and polished, thoroughly new school bit of house that pairs some infectious garage hits with a catchy vocal hook. A swollen bassline carries the whole thing along as neon synths dart about in the spaces. ‘Werk’ again shows Resketch’s knack for designing great and unusual sounds. His synths are dazzling, the hits sound bubbly and distant and the results are purposeful as well as being full of mild euphoria. 

‘Linkway’ then goes deeper and more withdrawn, echoing voices creating an underwater feel as streamlined rubber kicks anchor you to a seabed. Pinging bass notes recall shades of the Bristol sound and the resultant effect is a sensuous and seductive groove. 

Closer ‘Livin‘’ is a big, swirling melange of deft synth details, gliding hits and liquid grooves. It swells then retreats throughout, allowing brief vocals to shine through the paddy rays of light before kicking once again. Resketch’s sound, like Your Mama’s Friend overall, is refreshingly modern and free from overtly familiar tropes... as such this EP might be the one that garners the man behind it the wider attention he deserves.

Marcin Czubala is not your typical techno artist: part of this might have to do with the fact that he hails from Poland; yet another part of it might have to do with his extensive background in classical music. Ultimately, however, what sets Marcin apart are his distinct and idiosyncratic musical stylings. While grounded in minimal house and techno, Marcin’s work always bears his unmistakable signature: slinky, undulating grooves full of bizarre twists and turns that ceaselessly continue to surprise the listener at every turn.

With a hefty background in classical music - between 1991 and 1994 he performed over 300 concerts, including the Nantes Festival, Warsaw Autumn and performances with experimental-music giant Krzysztof Penderecki - Marcin began his career as a DJ and producer in 1995 after his graduation from music school in Poznan, Poland. By 1999 he had founded Poland’s first techno label, Currently Processing, and starting releasing productions equally influenced by Brighton techno and experimental electronic music. As prolific as he is prodigious, by the time Marcin had joined forces with mobilee in 2007, he had already released 10 EPs and a myriad of 12” singles to his name for labels such as Neue Heimat and Morris Audio.

After joining the mobilee roster, Marcin hit the ground running, releasing two singles in just six months and issuing his debut LP for mobilee, Chronicles of Never, just a year later. Receiving critical acclaim for its exploration of a wide range of sounds while still conveying a certain consistency of mood, Chronicles of Never garnered comparisons to the production skills of Ricardo Villalobos, Tobias Freund, and Stefan Goldmann for its willful experimentation that never lost sight of the dancefloor. Its 10 tracks are supple and unpredictable, encompassing irresistible rhythms, unusual melodies, lush sound design, and an instinct for classic forms. Marcin continues to expand his sound with each of his releases: inspired by minimal techno, but not bound to its rules, he continues to forge a sound that is his alone.
