1) We heard quite a variety of sounds in your mix. Where would you say you draw your biggest inspiration from? Any particular genres or DJs?

I think this is the best thing you could tell me; my kind of motto is "everything goes and the feet keep dancing"; I always like to vary among disco, house and proto house, balearic and electronic sounds.

While putting together a mixtape I try to fit in different genres; I like to think: "what would Andrew Weatherall or DJ Harvey do?" 
I am also very lucky to be surrounded by friends who dj and curate music shows and they are all a great source of inspiration to me. 

2) There was a superb Bollywood disco track about halfway in, how do you go about digging for new music?

Radio shows are great to discover new music, following djs and selectors who run periodical shows among different independent radio has become a daily source of new music for me ehehh
Record shops and clubs are of course places where I love going and discovering  something new, something unexpected. 

3) You also help run the RBL Radio, can you tell us a bit about how that started?

Yes, RBL.media; is a community web radio which was founded in Italy almost ten years ago. I am part of the members who brought RBL to Berlin and everything started from an encounter at Panorama Bar; few weeks after we broadcasted the first two shows from the city and after 4 years we are about 30 people working and collaborating within RBL Berlin. It's a great family, I had the chance to meet so many amazing and interesting people through the radio. 

We opened recently an account on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/rblmedia) where members can enjoy unique contents and support the radio.

4) We remember hearing one of your releases as Funky Espresso for the Berlin Bass Collective crew a few years back and wanted to ask, do you have any upcoming releases lined up?

I don't have upcoming releases lined up actually, but during the last two years I produced some new tracks with a new project called Dionis (@dionismusic) and I hope I will be able to share them with everyone soon. 
Also with Funky Espresso we are planning to work on new tracks exploring different sounds.

Marco Ohboy is a Berlin based DJ with a Mediterranean soul. He's enthusiast of disco, house and electronic music. 

One of the co-founders of the community web radio rbl.media his sets are journeys towards the groovy beats he is inspired by. 

The mixtape for The Disco Express starts with an edit of one of his favourite Italian songs, blending into boogie vibes to build up a new disco and house music selection. Marco Ohboy had the chance to showcase his music vision on Refuge Worldwide Radio in Berlin, The Lot Radio in Brooklyn, NYC, East Side Radio in Lisbon, Radio Raheem in Milan and on the Kiosk Radio in Brussels.

Mike Riviera and Marco Ohboy bring us back down for a more earthly kind of ecstatic experience, cranking up the humidity and coaxing out the endorphins with the appropriately-titled “Euphoria” - a rugged, rave-adjacent heater that cleverly rearranges elements of classic house and garage into a decidedly modern club workout.

Mike Riviera (real name Michele Tessadri) is a music maker and Dj deeply inspired by funk, disco and house music.
He started releasing music as Fratelli Riviera in 2008 on Bearfunk (UK) and Slow MotionRecords (ITA/DE).
In 2009 he started producing in a duo called The Heels of Love, with which he released an album on Nang (UK) and several 12” on labels such Under The Shade (UK) , Mad on the Moon (ITA) , Cliché Breaks (FR).
With The Heels of Love he remixed tracks by the late 70´s French group Space and Phil Oakey from Human League just to name a few.
After moving to Berlin in 2012 he started DJing in the alternative local scene (in clubs such as Griessmuehle, Renate, Diskothek Melancholie and many others) and formed a dj/production duo called Sauvage World.
With this project he released several 12” on Slow Motion Records, Roam Recordings (US), Paradiso Records (UK).
In 2024 he released “Night Jamz” in collaboration with italian legend Dj Rocca on Fortunea Rec (AU), the first Ep under the moniker Mike Riviera.

Marco Ohboy is a Berlin-based DJ with a Mediterranean soul that merges a high-energy stage presence with a hypnotic mixing style.
Marco’s sets blend punchy, groovy, and percussive rhythms with deep and cosmic acid textures infused by soulful and sensual vocal elements.
His journey into music began with a bass guitar in rock n’ roll bands, but it was the electrifying energy of the Buggedout parties in Milan that drew him into the world of electronic music.
Once in Berlin, Marco dove headfirst into the city’s nightlife, started collecting records and playing them at basements’ parties..
With a love for disco and funky house, Marco joined Berlin Bass Collective performing at iconic venues like Klunkerkranich, Anita Berber, and Loftus Hall. His creative spark led to the birth of his side project, Funky Espresso, alongside Aziz Hashmi, releasing their first productions on the Smooth Operators label.
Marco’s passion for community and music intertwined when he co-founded RBL Berlin, a community radio where he not only hosted a monthly show but also played a key role in its ongoing operations.
Today, Marco continues to evolve, drawing inspiration from proto house, acid house, deep, progressive, and Italo house. His current projects include curating the Pineta party series and collaborating with Mike Riviera on new music that pay homage to the Italo and Mediterranean club culture, bringing their vibrant essence to the dance floors.
With performances at The Lot Radio in Brooklyn, The Kiosk Radio in Bruxelles, Refuge Worldwide in Berlin, Nextones Festival, and a Pineta takeover during ADE, Marco Ohboy is set to spread his infectious grooves across international stages.

Marco Ohboy is a Berlin-based DJ active in the electronic music scene with several projects (@dionismusic,@berlinbasscollective) and he hosts a monthly radio show on @rblberlin. 
So far he shared the booth with artists like Dan Shake, Wayne Snow, Giovanni Damico and Fabio Della Torre to name a few and he recently had the chance to showcase his music vision on The Lot Radio in Brooklyn, NYC and on Kiosk Radio in Brussels.

About the mixtape

I invited a couple of friends at home, I served some drinks and I pressed the record button! On this mixtape I thought I wanted to feel somehow the live set vibes that I miss in these crazy times we're all passing through.
It's a rough selection of house and proto house records from my collection and it features tracks from some of my favorite labels such as Running Back Records, Sound Signature, Lumberjack In Hell, West End Records. 
I hope that it makes you dance and that soon we will be able to get together on the dance floor.
