Marco Beckmann began his professional career as a sub-advisor at the Hauck & Aufhäuser DAC Nanotech Fund, an internationally invested equity fund specializing in nanotechnology. In late 2003 at the age of 25, he founded Nanostart AG, at that time one of the first and leading venture capital investors in Nanotechnology. Within just two years, he managed to build the company into a global asset manager with a market capitalization of more than 200 Million Euros at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and a portfolio of leading nanotech-companies around the globe from the Silicon Valley to Singapore. He served as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Nanostart AG until 2014 and left the company in early 2015. In his years at Nanostart, he supported several companies as a lead investor with high-risk venture investments in cutting-edge technologies like nanotechnology-based cancer treatment or innovative water purification technologies. He was able to build a venture fund for nanotechnology jointly with the government of Singapore and is regarded as one of the biggest non-governmental supporters of Nanotechnology in Europe.
