HUISGEMAAKT #2 - YOKTO

The thing I love most about Burning Man is no matter how much you think you've prepared, you still never really know what to expect. The uncertainty, the excitement, the apprehension, and sometimes even the fear of what's just around the corner is what keeps so many of us coming back every year with a renewed childlike wonder - a feeling that seems to slip away as we get older. Sometimes everything goes right, and sometimes things just go wrong. 2014 was a mixed bag for me with some high highs (spending time with amazing people, getting to DJ in the best place in the world, seeing some incredible forms of expression) and low lows (namely falling hard on my back off of a see-saw putting me in constant pain for the entire week - it even hurt to laugh!)...but at the end of the day, I got exactly what I bargained for and couldn't ask for anything more: I experienced the unexpected.

In contrast to the previous two years on the bus, this year I played first on Friday night and took a little sonic stroll around different sounds and moods to open the night before Bedouin beautifully escalated the night into proper party mode...Pardon any sloppy mixing, we can just blame that on my aching back :)

Thanks to everyone who was there early in the night to catch my set, and thanks to everyone listening at home, Robot Heart, and Dr Burridge for the continued support over the years...Having the opportunity to do what I do is such a great gift from all of you.

It’s not often we have a Spotlight Mix on a Tuesday but when we do they really are something special! London based DJs and producers Mad Organ prove just that today, offering up an hour of forward thinking techno blends.

Originally hailing from Barcelona, we recently caught Mad Organ in the flesh whilst enjoying a few post work drinks and were so impressed with their performance we quickly set about securing their talent for our spotlight series. Aiming to explore the power of harmonic progressions in electronic music whilst acknowledging the musical possibilities of techno Mad Organ bringing a fresh perspective to the genre of the type we’ve not seen in quite some time.

Their productions are focused on reaching a climax via intense breakdowns, unexpected mood changes and deep techno beats. Put simply Mad Organ’s live sets are an energetic dance-floor journey.

Overnite - The Black 80s April 2013 Mix

Over the course of the last three plus decades, the German born DJ, musician and composer Marc Romboy has become synonymous with a soulful electronic music sound that has taken him all over the world. As well as releasing on only the most influential labels, from Innervisions to Cocoon and Kompakt to Senso Sounds, he is also the sole mastermind behind the influential Systematic Recordings label and has been since 2004.

Nowadays an album specialist, 2006 saw him release his debut album, the captivating „Gemini" whilst in 2017 Marc released his first listening long player called „Voyage de la planète“, a pure electronica album with classical music influence and later, in summer 2017 the live recording of his collaboration with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra called „Reconstructing Debussy“, in cooperation with Boiler Room hit the stores.

Despite being a key player for so long, Marc is still as relevant as ever and remains right at the sharp end of electronic music. Proof of that comes in the form of his DJ schedule, which takes him from Fabric to Womb and Berghain to Rex, as well as to not one but three separate Boiler Room shows. All three proved Marc to be a dexterous performer who never relies on obviousness or gimmicks, instead telling truly musical stories that place dancers right at the heart of the action.
