Part two of Marcus' 2021 Just Add Sunshine set, taking on the later hours of the night/early hours of the morning, starting with the beautiful, melancholic vocals of 'Pause' by Beacon & Kolsch, then building up the tempo with breaks from Blutch, Robert Babicz, Tim Engelhardt and Rodriguez Jr. on to 'Calma Calma' by Robag Wruhme which gives C'hantal's classic vocal 'The Realm' a new life.
The mix finishes with a techno edge, with tracks and remixes by Sam Goku, Luke Slater, Opal Sunn and Danny Howells, then back to the breaks and electronica, ending with the epic Plaid remix of Ricardo Tobar's 'After the Movie'

Everybody loves blondes right? Well In the last few years we’ve become even more of a fan of the fair, well ish as Canadian born London based duo Blond:ish have captured our attention with their unique production recipe which focuses on the art of creating music that is organic and multi-dimensional. Provocative basslines contrast with smooth textures and haunting vocals to defy categorization as anything other than cool. 

Thus it is with great excitement we welcome the girls in for this weeks podcast after a huge 2012 wherein they stormed the scene with a series of big releases including their psychedelic influenced ‘Lovers In Limbo’ EP  on Kompakt  which showcased Blond:ish’s curiosity of the late 60’s musical movement, as well dropping stellar efforts for Noir Music, NM2 and Get Physical. 

So with a big year behind them and even bigger 2013 planned with an extensive set of tour dates including Flying Circus in Ibiza at the end of the month and the Chicago leg of the Electric Daisy Carnival, things certainly seem to be looking up for the duo.  Quirky and innovative, very much like their native city of Montreal and the organized chaos that have accompanied their sets there since they burst onto the scene with their acclaimed residency at the city’s Cherry Club, we think the mix they’ve delivered from a small village in deepest, darkest Mexico is the perfect thing to get you in the mood for the summer ahead. Showcasing dark, filthy originals and remixes from the likes of Optiv, Treo, and fellow Bad Chemistry artist Robyn Chaos, Empire X kicks off the season of bass with his Summer Mix Set 2013. Proving himself once again and refusing to let you stop listening, you’ll find yourself hitting that play button again when it’s over, just to get another audio ass kicking. He pulls from dark DNB heavyweights and mixes them masterfully together. Seriously, this shit is gnarly. Whatever you need to get pumped for, this is it. Starting off with a new track, “Insane”, from Therapy Sessions veteran Cooh, the adrenaline kicks in and only lets up in the brief periods that Empire X decides that maybe you could use a breather. Those breathers are few and far between though, so enjoy em while you can!

Artfully carrying on the primal journey through grimy, technical tracks, this set definitely hammers home that Empire X is here to stay. So press play, crank the volume up to 11, and don’t be too shocked if your neighbors call the cops for aural brutality. It’ll be worth it.

Deep In The Chill Out

As a kid from the UK growing up in 1980s Manchester, I was privileged to live through the Factory records era and enjoy the booming music scene as It reshaped the city's image from 'dirty old town' to the global mecca of nightlife and creativity it is today.
While the warehouse and club scene was beginning to bubble away, I spent my early teens listening to mixtapes from the likes of Sasha (who began his career down the road and has curated the soundtrack of my life ever since), the DJs of the Thunderdome and Hippos (Jay and Moggy) and the legendary 808 State Show - at the age of 16 I was invited down to the Sunset studios to play a live  guest mix on the show and was booked to play my first club gig in the city, warming up at Parliament Nightclub.
I spent many years clubbing and DJing around Manchester and the City Centre, developing my DJ style taking influence from the DJs of the Hacienda, Bugged Out and Tangled and became hooked on the Progressive House scene led by Sasha, Digweed, Renaissance, Cream and the Global Underground mix series.
After a summer DJing in Cyprus in 1999, I returned to Manchester and held several residencies in bars and clubs around the City; Dry Bar, Joshua Brooks, South, the wonderful sweatbox where I'd spent my twenties bouncing, Tangled and more recently Soundcontrol.
I've been lucky to DJ with many of my idols such as Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff, Hybrid, Ashley Casselle.
30+ years on, now living in Cairns, Australia, I'm still hunting new sounds to share with anyone who will listen to this veteran of the bedroom DJ scene.
