This is a short mix dedicated to Maestro Anibal Velásquez, incredible musician and the world’s most hardcore, trail blazing Acordeon players and singers. If you can dance it, he can play it, lightning speed Guarachas are his trademark, but he has a deep back catalogue of Pasebols, Cumbias & Charangas. 

When I was living in Colombia I was fortunate enough to learn accordion first hand from Anibal in his home in Barranquilla, over a year or so he schooled me on his approach, an open book on his the gun slinging technique, no button spared, bellows always drawn. His principal has sometimes been overlooked by a country consistently moving on to the next, but Anibal has been a staple of the Afro-Carribean diaspora as much as Arsenio Rodriguez or Beny More. He is one of the few artists 
who can brag that their career began on radio and 78 recordings and now is still putting out music in the digital age. Part of his arsenal has been the fire and ferocity of his backing band, together with his brother Joseito they are a true musical force, a world of frog noises and close harmonies. 

I gave up expecting to collect every Anibal record years ago, 
partly because there are just so many, I think you’d need a whole Anibal room for it in your house, but maybe thats what we all need. Anibal turns 80 Years today, and with a murderous dry wit and fearless musicality shows no sign of stopping any time soon.

“Inner Calling” is a call from within, to look inside and find our true self, sincere and naked. Our goal is to pay tribute to the classics of Jamaica from the 70s that influenced us so much, not only on our way to perceive music, but also on our way to look at the world, and not just through their sound, but also though their urgent message of crisis. We did the best out of ourselves to not just imitate their ways, but to bring it to our present day.

Recorded by musicians live at the studio, direct to tape on one take, a way to do things that's so rare nowadays but where the magic of the songs is so naturally captured that's difficult to ignore.

“Inner Calling” is an album that can be listened to on a Sound System, in the car or having a walk though the fields, with friends, with family and that can be enjoyed time after time for many years and in every situation. An album very necessary for the scene in which we heartily believe. Running away from the One Hit culture or the Foot-stomping tracks and embracing the original spirit of Roots of those dances in the 70s. An album to help recover the original sound system culture. Lyrics about social issues, compromised with our times, urgent problems that need to be dealt with, same way now as it was necessary in Jamaica back then, for it's the same fierce babylon system we a deal with!!

Sweet & Rough!
	In 2019, Marcus I & Natural HighDubs will be working together on 7 songs to be released on ODGprod the 11th of march. They are also working on "Step by step" a 7" out on Berry's records the 3 of april; they will then play several sound system dates, and will finally join forces on a stage project with melodic vocals from Marcus I carried by Natural HighDubs's raw, minimalist sounds.

Natural High Dubs
	Co-founder and keyboard player of the French band High Tone, this self-taught musician has extensive experience as a musician and producer. 
He started to produce music as Natural high dubs in 2009, when he launched the dub invaders project, dedicated to the sound system culture. His uncompromising, raw and minimal sound is a blend of digital reggae, UK dub and stepper, performed live on an analog desk and with digital effects. He has already stacked up quite a few releases featuring Shanti-D, Pupa Jim, Dan Man, Joe Pilgrim & Marcus I, on labels such as jarring effects, ODG and Marée bass. 

Marcus I
	Born in Santander (Spain), this singer, musician, and composer decided to dedicate his professional life to music at the age of 23. His album Inner Calling, released in 2016 on black music label Tucxone Records, is a reflection of the huge respect he has for Jamaican music from the 70s. He recently moved to France, and collaborates and performs regularly with various European groups and producers.

This was a version of an Edmundo Arias song that we recorded with the Combo Barbaro in 2006 at the Heliocentrics studio in London. Can't remember this ever coming out.
