After closing our recent event at 90mil for Slowfoam's album launch, André set about to capture the essence of his set and the evening into a new mix for us.

Reflecting back, it was truly special to see the coming together of such diverse social spheres and how quickly all was broken down in the atmosphere of Andre's music. At the core, his sets are a total celebration of life, an invitation to dance no matter how undanceable or mysterious the song. Music you’ve never heard becomes the music you’ve known all your life.

Across fluctuating tension and rhythm, all sorts of worlds intertwine… digi-dub morphs to acid to avant-folk in perfect harmony. But what stands out most is the pure admiration for DIY music; it’s the curation of a tender heart, finding the purest of souls in the strangest of music. 

Towards the close of this wonderful set, Laurie Anderson recalls ‘I remember where I came from, there were tropical breezes and a wide open sea, I remember my childhood, I remember being free.’ It’s a sentiment that embodies the experience of André music, an invitation to be utterly lost in the most beautiful ephemeral moment, that melancholy-tinged euphoria in the instant before it’s all over, stretched out for eternity.

Mixes are a unique type of musical expression. They capture a specific moment in time, determined by the knowledge and style of the artist. A mix is as important a creative statement as an album, remix or EP. One mix can change an artist’s career, one mix can open a listener’s mind to something completely new.
