As an artist with already a lot of very successful material to his name, Rodriguez Jr.’s debut album Bittersweet is a highly anticipated release. There are in fact many reasons why people should hold their breath for it - an impressive 11 track body of work that features some of the well renowned and loved Rodriguez Jr. sonic traits, as well as a lot of new and previously unchartered musical ground. It simultaneously presents techno, atmospheric dub, hypnotic, melancholy and hands down hedonistic music, and with a focus on exploring textures and moods, there is something here for everyone to get lost in.

Rodriguez Jr., aka Oliver Mateu, was originally introduced to music through radio in the south of France, where he closely followed a selection of 80s bands, as well as forming a strong love for synthesizers. It wasn’t long before he was inspired to start his own group with partner Giles Escoffier ‘The Youngsters’, which quickly signed to Laurent Garnier’s F-Communications, taking them to some of the biggest clubs and festivals around the world. After great success, the project was put on hold and over the last five years Mateu has been given the space to focus more on his solo work and finally the opportunity to create an album.

In spite of his French origins, both Olivier Mateu's artist name and productions lean more towards his father's Spanish roots, with a Mediterranean warmth and party atmosphere often coming to the fore. Bittersweet, however, embodies influences from all over the world. Inspired during recent trips to Japan, Canada and Europe, the voyaging Rodriguez Jr. accompanied by his laptop lay down ideas in hotel rooms after playing in clubs and absorbed the different environments around him into his work. With each country creating a new experience, his touring has played a big part in the variety of tracks that are presented here.

Whilst the spice of Bittersweet was captivated in far away places, the main body of the production of the album was carried out in Mateu’s hidden away studio in Belgium, filled with many loved pieces of analogue gear and synthesizers. Ranging from the Roland TR909, for a classic house drum feel, to the Korg MS10 for dirtier sounds, and a selection of Roland keyboards to choose from, “I am definitely a synth fetishist! Ahaha!” (Rodriguez Jr.). Each has contributed in Rodriguez Jr.’s quest to create an artistic project of the highest quality and creativity that he is capable of, with outstanding results. He has also drawn on the creative input of two musicians who are featured in two of the tracks – And.Id playing his trumpet and Cari Golden’s vocals.

A masterpiece that truly reflects the Rodriguez Jr. of today, it also offers us enough variety and surprise to keep us inspired by this ever-evolving artist. Reflecting on the tracks Bittersweet refers to the contradictory forces at play within the music – it may be beautiful and it may be sweet – but be careful of the party animal it can unleash both in the creator and within all of you present on the dancefloor!

Debuting on Kompakt with a masterfully twisted remix of Gui Boratto's "Take Control" (KOMPAKT 302) in 2014, Miami-based DJ/Producer DANNY DAZE had already made himself a name with outings on tastemaking labels like Maceo Plex's Ellum Audio, Ultramajic or Miami's very own Omnidisc - but it was the raw and muscular SPEICHER 80 that really opened up our receptors. Danny's recipe for bendy, electro- infused techno turned out to be insanely catchy and ripe with bass, a bold, futuristic and funky vision for the dancing floor that finds a brilliant follow-up in his latest outing: two new exercises in off-the-cuff mayhem grace SPEICHER 91, with face-melting uber- jam SWIM kicking off a weird and wonderful parade of synth riffs, belting beats and pure arpeggio anarchy - while the flipside is held hostage by the razor-sharp, robotic funk of MACHINE, Danny's second collaboration with TRANSLUCENT for Speicher after the hard-hitting "Speaker Language" (KOMPAKT EXTRA 80).

Dannys Rezept für biegsamen, Electro- durchwirkten T echno entpuppte sich als unglaublich mitreissend und basslastig, eine kühne, futuristische und funkende Vision für den tanzenden Flur, die ihre Fortsetzung in einer brillianten neuen Scheibe findet: zwei frische Blaupausen für den Rave im Handumdrehen beglücken uns auf SPEICHER 91, mit der Gesichtszugkernschmelze SWIM als Auftakt zur völligen Arpeggio-Anarchie - während die Rückseite dem rasiermesserscharfen Robofunk von MACHINE zum Opfer fällt, Dannys zweiter Kollaboration mit TRANSLUCENT für Speicher nach dem knallharten Durchstarter "Speaker Language" (KOMPAKT EXTRA 80).

Great to see Terminal M queen Monika Kruse teaming up with her buddies Pig&Dan again. It's been more than a year since their common single releases on Pig&Dan's label Elevate or Terminal M but the two guys from Mallorca have been very busy finishing their album, releases for Drumcode and  their upcoming Space Ibiza CD. Meanwhile Monika travelled the world more than ever with her dj bag to bring the techno message to even more places.

Ten Walls debut album 'Queen'

The long awaited debut album from the highly talented dance music producer and artist Ten Walls called 'Queen' available from the mid of March in a double CD package and in the end of the month also in digital format. The author created a continuous story full of different colours and a great mixture of different genres including flavours of Broken Beat, Dub or even New Jazz. 
 'Queen' is an organic album. CD1 is more for listening, slow and light, including few songs as well. CD2 sounds more like dance music. One can also hear a lot of genres there, moving from one to the other. This album as one piece, just divided into two physical CD's. 
 The package of the album looks like a book - a piece of art. The book includes photos, reflecting each track. 'I have pictured these musical pieces in my mind, as it's natural for the artist to exceed the competence and search for additional forms that would supplement your work, making it single piece of art.' - adds Marijus (Ten Walls).  The combination of arts is a very important thing to be noticed, each of them has it's space, place and role in the album. Poetry and lyrics, photography / visual arts and music, altogether they make 'Queen' more that just a music album. 
 Ten Walls also made collaborations with very wide and different spectrum of musicians during the creation of his debut album 'Queen'. Conductor Ricardas Sumila, legendary piano genius and artist Petras Geniusas, good old friend Vytautas Sondeckis added some Cello masterpiece, bass guitar Domas Aleksa, drummer Marijus Aleksa, singers Monika Liu, ALX and Jonatan Backelie, Marijus' spiritual friend and teacher Andrew and nonet performers.
 Ten Walls debut album 'Queen' is available in double CD package from the mid of March and in digital format from the 27th of March.
