From an upcoming album recording "Forbidden Languages" of original works for solo prepared and extended saxophones. Tenor sax prepared with internal tubing and aluminium foil - percussive digital patterns, circular breathing and vocalising into the instrument - close-miked and recorded in a single, live take.

It leads the listener to question whether feeling a sense of identity and place in a work of music is important and whether imposing labels on music is really necessary. This work seeks to blend traditional and contemporary musical worlds and is influenced the contemporary classical music of Seoul, South Korea.

Margery Smith is a composer and creative music workshop facilitator with a special interest in collaborative work, she is a curious musician who explores new music and improvisation with works that cross boundaries. Smith loves to work with students of all ages and abilities, and has performed throughout the world on both clarinet and saxophone. She has held Principal positions with Australia’s leading orchestras and chamber music ensembles.
