I found almost by chance these lines while reading a book by Thomas Ligotti and the image was so strong to induce me to investigate this mechanical (and suffering) nature of the human being, realizing a musical autopsy: the body/piece, gradually assembled and then dissected, shows its internal structure made up of imperfect gears and repeated modules and reveals itself as a machine, now turned off.

This piece was composed imagining the neural path of an event. The information is initially perceived by the receptor organs and elaborated in a first neural stage. Subsequently the event is compared with the memory, in order to obtain an elaboration of the information coherent with the personal life experience. The brain data becomes more and more abstract and create the meaning of the information, shaping our thoughts, our impressions. In this way we create ourselves through an abstract genesis. The sound events in the composition are always related to the previous sounds and have been developed following an evolutionary process. The spatialization has been treated as a projection of the internal sound space, paying particular attention to the distribution of the spectrum, which aims at a sound perception in an increasingly intimate environment.

Maria Vittoria Agresti, born in 1996 in Caserta, Italy, is an Italian composer whose main focus is on the exploration and study of timbre as a vehicle for the perception of sound. 

Began her piano studies at a very young age, she graduated at the Conservatory of Avellino with highest honours in composition and piano.

Then she completed postgraduate studies in composition at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia under the guidance of Ivan Fedele.
During her time at the Academy she also attended the electronic music course with Michelangelo Lupone.

​Her works have received several awards and distinctions and she has collaborated with prominent composers and artists such as F. Filidei, C. Czernowin, F. Verunelli, M. Stroppa, M. Momi, N. Vassena, L. Ronchetti, J.M. Sánchez-Verdú, G. Cresta, A. Solbiati, G. Battistelli and others.

Her music has been performed in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Portugal by renowned ensembles and orchestras such as the Names Ensemble, AchRome Ensemble, RePercussion Trio, Concrete [Lab] Ensemble, Syntax Ensemble, NEMA Ensemble, G.G. Arrigoni strings Orchestra, Ensemble Dissonanzen, D'Este Symphonic Orchestra and by important soloist like F. D'Orazio, A. D'Errico, M. Boselli, E. Marchesini and others.

Currently at the "Accademia di Belle Arti" in Naples, doing a PhD in "Innovation, Technologies and New Materials for Art".
