Fresh up now we have J69 bringing that new school, bassier funky sound with those old school chords reminiscent of the don himself, Apple. Banger.

J69, a 1Forty & Tank Resident and a name very familiar in the underground scene having honed his craft for the best part of a decade. Although the Sheffield born producer is predominantly recognised for his contributions to bassline he's no stranger and very well versed in grime too with his grime releases being remixed by the likes of Rude Kid & Spooky.

Appearing on BBC Radio 1Xtra with a Guest Mix for DJ Cameo and more recently Reprezent Radio he's also had releases on some of the biggest labels in the scene including Project Allout Records & Off Me Nut Records. The legend that is DJ EZ has also championed his music for quite a while including on his infamous 3.5 hour Boiler Room set.

Moving toward the end of 2017 he tried his hand at UK Funky taking inspiration from early Lil Silva, Ill Blu & Crazy Couzins productions. We can safely say he has nailed the classic UK Funky sound at the first time of asking with his track entitled 'Wanna Say'.

As a long-time member of the Roska Kicks & Snares roster, and having been tipped as one of the UK funky scene’s flag bearers by both Toddla T and Marcus Nasty, there are few artists better placed than Murder He Wrote to put together a compilation of the scene’s next generation.

Pelikann is a name known right across the UK Bass spectrum, with his most recent releases coming out on the likes of UKF's Bass Culture series and Holy Goof's brand new Globes album, his production value has been nothing but impeccable year after year. One label to be instrumental in his prominent and meteoric rise is In:Flux audio and we're hugely grateful to premiere his brand new track "Shaolin" - taken from In:Flux's first official release of 2019 and Pelikann's third EP on the label.

Since we last saw him on In:Flux, Pelikann has played a whole host of sets throughout the summer - including Sector 6 at Boomtown and even more recently taking The Warehouse Project to task. Moving into new sectors he has channelled UK Funky into a track that has all the Pelikann trademarks we all know and love. Reese basses and Dubstep wobbles are accompanied by a bouncing UK Funky beat that will get any dancefloor moving.

In terms of being at the forefront of new generation UK Funky, it's difficult to look past one name that has been consistently leading the way and pushing the sound forward. Beginning the new year, he has already amassed shows in the USA, an Australian tour and the release of a number of remixes. Murder He Wrote's picks off from where he left off in 2018 with a work rate that is second to none, with his latest single on his own imprint "Rhythm Athletic".

Here we have the privilege of premiering Murder He Wrote's brand new single entitled "Love" featuring Jessica Wilde - who's own soulful sound has seen her work with the likes of Ghetts, Rudimental, Tough Love and Emilee Sande.

"Love" takes it back to the classic funky days and begins with an eclectic mixture of beautiful piano chords, Jessica Wildes impeccable and down right alluring vocals and Murder He Wrote's signature rolling percussion and beat that we are all so accustomed to hearing. "Love"oozes progression and Murder He Wrote moves onto the "drop" by bringing influences of UK Garage in with bouncey, pitched vocal chops that perfectly compliment the subtle yet almost dreamy and organic feel of the track. A definite personal favourite of ours to add to the collection from Murder He Wrote.
