I wrote this song because one time I couldn’t find the black polish at the nail salon, so whenever the lady asked me my color and I said “I couldn’t find the black, but that’s what I want,” she said “You look like the type to paint your nails black.” Which is an odd thing to say. And I still have no idea what that means. But it was enough for me to create a narrative for black vs. white polish girls.
