Love the trills and melody shifting through a variety of instruments.

The backing is a layered series of experiments in creating textures, primarily using the Noire piano. Helen then improvised a vocal performance we might describe as a dreamlike stream of ideas and motifs. After some initial hesitancy wondering what it was we were creating, we decided we rather liked the end result and thought we'd share it to the cloud.

Last summer a very large praying mantis appeared in our garden. A good friend and I wondered what kind of music would best portray this strange and mysterious insect. The following music is the result of our conversation.

An aside: I've always wondered just WHAT the praying mantis is praying about.  Knowing the mating habits of the insect as we do, I have come to the conclusion that she is simply saying her mealtime prayer: "For this and all I am about to receive make me truly grateful, O Lord."

I am a scientist who started composing music as a hobby in 2013. I have not studied composition and do not approach it analytically, only intuitively. I took piano lessons in my childhood and teens, but spent most of my adult life without playing piano until 2013. So far I have composed mostly for piano, in a polyphonic style that borrows from the Baroque as well as the Romantic spirit. I describe my style as "Baroquemantic". 

Most of my piano pieces are easy to play.  Some are very easy to play.  

All of my pieces rely on 2 or more concurrent melodies (counterpoint).
