Message from Toy Box:
"It’s been almost a year since my last multiple track release. I think my music has changed exponentially for the better in that time, and I’m proud of these tracks as I think they display a new vision for what Toy Box music will be in the future. Once you listen I’m sure you will notice that the tracks are considerably different from each other, however I hope you enjoy the certain signature sound that I believe I have been developing.  I initially wrote all the music on the mandolin and then transcribed it to all the different instruments.  The vocals are recordings of myself or others and I hope the melodies get stuck in your head. I tried to lean more towards the acoustic/real-life aspects of sounds, but obviously there is a significant amount of electronic elements involved. I mastered them all myself, but got some feedback from some producer friends.  These tracks were made on airplanes, bus rides, in my living room, the library, etc. I’ve been taking a lot of influence from Odesza, Bonobo, Emancipator, and Flume, but obviously wanting to make the EP as different and my own as possible. All in all, I just hope you really enjoy these sounds and share them with your friends!"

Toy Box releases “Short Stories” EP on Street Ritual! Experience a futuristic chillout vibe fused in with acoustics and organic flavors filled with depth, quality, and balance. Four tracks display melodic captures as vocals and instrumentation create clarity hailing from Denver, CO. These soundscapes create ambient atmospheres of elegant composition and trigger a calming effect that leads through melodic measures. Carter fuses in his mandolin, making for an overall progression of authentic creativity and aesthetic presentation.

Toy Box is the alias of Carter Matthews, an up and coming musician and producer currently modulating in Denver, Colorado. Matthews has managed to stand out in a highly competitive music scene by blending soundscapes , pushing the boundaries of everyday genres, and meticulously blending the instrumental and digital. With his range of production abilities and the unique infusion of his mandolin, Toy Box gives himself a creative advantage over every other player in the game. With his following and inspiration growing stronger each day, the future is looking quite exciting for this young audial wizard.

Toy Box - Halo

The world was a wondrous place. Technology had unlocked the skies; beings from far off planets had become new friends. The dream of utopia beckoned as humanity lifted itself towards transcendence.

Till one day, from within, they appeared. Ravenous, disfigured monsters, mad with an unquenchable lust for flesh, rampaging through villages and cities, consuming and infecting all they met with an incurable plague: the Kannibalen virus. As this tide of death spread uncontrollably, the rich fled to the stars and the visitors quarantined the planet, leaving the rest to fend for themselves. Some hid in far off wastelands, others locked themselves in walled cities, salvaging what they could to preserve what was left of civilization. Amidst the chaos, some sought profit and power: opportunists, war mongers, pirates twisted by evil; whispers spread of half-breads and mutants twisting their strings from the shadows. But hope still lived. Bands of survivors, fighting to preserve humanity and restore the world to what it was.

This is the story of one of these groups.

Showtime is a powerful story of an introvert who wants to conquer his inner demons. His buddy convinces him to try ayahuasca, and the song follows his journey. Each drop represents a different wave of emotion from overwhelming, to clarity, to chaos. I specifically chose Born I to deliver this story, being a proponent of mindfulness, and he masterfully told the tale.

COPYCATT has been redefining production and engineering paradigms in bass music  for the last four years and running. His obtuse, frequency-splitting textures and stylistic groove have been a constant inspiration for today’s incoming producers and audiophiles. For this edition of Rusted Rhythms, he’s graciously provided an exclusive mix of unreleased music from his growing stash. It’s a brash, boisterous dive into potent bass lines and head-nod rhythms. When Terror Reid released his latest EP, "Hot Vodka," Bryan (Bemah) came to me with the idea for a remix. After he sent over the initial project file and kicked it off as a head-bobbing dubstep track with the infectious style of Terror Reid's beats and rapping, we were instantly hooked and really focused to get the track done.

What came out of it was a halftime tune with several different bass music genre influences including dubstep, neurohop, leftfield bass, and experimental hip hop. There was never a dull moment in writing this tune.
