The final single drop before the release of his debut solo album, ‘Blu Terra’, British-Australian artist Jackson Mico Milas releases the enigmatic ‘Don’t You Think Of Me Once In A While’ on the Belgian label Apollo Records.

Warming piano melodies and deft keys glide over dusty jazz rhythms as Jackson’s buttery vocal hits a real sweet spot on this album highlight. 

“Whenever I fall in love with an idea in the studio, I experience an almost physical sensation of a fresh breeze - it rolls in and it feels like a hint of spring after a long winter. I'm sure it's different for everybody. When this song came together, it straight up felt like i was on holiday driving somewhere, gliding through the sunshine and everything was just fine. Doesn't matter what the emotion of the song is, i feel like i come up for air. These are the moments you strive for when creating, and whenever i listen to this song i feel it again instantly. The lyric "the ocean is a wave come to wash us away" was a line i heard in an Agnes Varda documentary. It was something she wrote down in the 70's, and unfortunately it couldn't be more relevant today. Thank you to Robby Sinclair who sent a great drum recording from his home studio in Paris for this one”.

The accomplished musician and composer has gained prominence with his band High Highs, who were signed to Elton John’s Rocket Records label, as well as touring with the likes of Vampire Weekend, Empire Of The Sun and Sky Ferreira. 

‘Blu Terra’ is released on Apollo Records, the home to ground-breaking talent such as Aphex Twin, Biosphere, Nadine Shah, Gigi Masin, Cabaret Voltaire and many more over its 40-year tenure.

This time he takes on the Slumber Session and packs in a tonne of unreleased exclusive material to deliver this beautiful, ethereal soundtrack to help you journey through your dreams. Take time, kick back, zone out and drift off. This one is special.

"This Slumber Session mix gave me a great opportunity to make a playlist of something I would want to listen to when unwinding, or to just fall asleep to. I wanted it to be able to exist in the background, without focus, whilst at the same time having elements of detail and beauty scattered amongst the layers of sound unravelling as the mix progresses.

In some ways you can think of it as a soundtrack to a dream. There are moments of calm flowing smoothly into more abstract sections. Textures build to go from sparse emotive landscapes to darker, brooding moments of tension. I wanted it to be dynamic, taking in a variety of styles and influences, whilst giving the listener a coherent experience and painting some interesting images in their minds.

It also gave me the chance to put in a lot of unreleased tracks of mine. I make a wide variety of styles outside of my normal output, so it was great to have an outlet for some of that material. There are also a lot of field recordings I've made over the last few years throughout the mix, including some from my travels. The opening section of music features the sounds of walks in Sydney and San Francisco, which at the time was just some subconscious grabbing of sound recordings without any kind of artistic purpose - it just sounded cool at the time. It seemed fitting when I realised where the sounds were from, as the mix would have been the perfect playlist for a lot of my sleep deprived travels.

I ended up getting so involved putting together this mix that there's a lot of live tweaks of outboard reverb and delay units layered on certain tracks to try and get the sense of space I wanted to achieve and give the mix some breathing space. I find that ambient music can be incredibly beautiful and achieve the range of emotions other music can. I hope that you enjoy the musical selection and can immerse yourself in it, even with the emphasis away from the hooks and rhythms of traditional electronic dance music."

Christian Samsara's DJ Set at Boom Festival 2023

On July 26, 2023, under the Portuguese night sky, Christian Samsara performed a spellbinding three-hour set at The Gardens stage of the Boom Festival. Crafting a sonic journey that seamlessly blended Ambient, Downtempo, and Deep Techno genres, his set was characterized by its atmospheric textures, intricate rhythms, and carefully curated track selection.

It was recorded, mastered at the Ultimae studios and can now be played on Soundcloud. Enjoy !

A software engineer at Ableton by day, Sieren’s love for UK influenced bass music and field recording and experimental soundscaping resulted in his Apollo debut ‘Static Polymorphism’ a masterly EP of spaced out street-rave soul. 

Now returning with the five track Ascension EP, Frick has tightened and toughened up his sound somewhat (see the caustic bass glower of ‘Slinger’), augmenting his starry eyed wonder with a firmer percussive underpinning and more driving tempos. However still present are his preternatural grasp of emotion and atmosphere that marked him out as one to watch - perfectly underscored by the heartbreaking beauty of the title track.

Fellow Apollo cohort Synkro AKA Joe McBride was instrumental in the curation of Sieren’s debut Static Polymorphism EP on Apollo, hand picking the tracks, as well as road testing them in his DJ sets. This time McBride goes one further, collaborating with Frick on the track ‘Lost You’ to memorable effect - the beautiful pads and ghostly piano are a perfect synergy of their complimentary skill sets. 

This is richly textured and intricately programmed post-bass music that is sure to satisfy fans of Burial, dBridge, Akkord with its soulful sincerity and warmth.
