Christian Samsara's DJ Set at Boom Festival 2023

On July 26, 2023, under the Portuguese night sky, Christian Samsara performed a spellbinding three-hour set at The Gardens stage of the Boom Festival. Crafting a sonic journey that seamlessly blended Ambient, Downtempo, and Deep Techno genres, his set was characterized by its atmospheric textures, intricate rhythms, and carefully curated track selection.

It was recorded, mastered at the Ultimae studios and can now be played on Soundcloud. Enjoy !

This turned out to be a bigger project than I realised. It's a mix of the ambient parts of Ozric Tentacles' tracks. It doesn't cover all of their tracks. Their discography is just too big and some parts I couldn't get to fit with the flow. The mix starts off quite tribal but progressess into beatless ambient. Timistamping everything is too challenging as some parts overlap and fade out and back in again. The shortest sample is around 2 seconds and others are full tracks. Anyway, here's the tracklist:

In this collaboration, Radboud Mens and I explore the tension between stasis and movement. Operating within the realm of drone and electroacoustic music, we construct a sonic landscape where sustained tones and microscopic events constantly shape and reshape each other. What initially appears static reveals itself to be rich with detail: tiny acoustic shifts breathe life into apparent stillness, inviting focused and attentive listening.

The album emerged from a process where sound research, improvisation, and sound design merge. Self-built instruments, the search for timbre and texture, and recordings of the learning process itself form the foundation of these compositions. Rather than following a traditional musical structure, the result is a sonic field in which the minimal continually transforms depending on the listener’s perspective. This is a layered and handcrafted album that doesn’t narrate, but questions. Marking A Boundary With The Turning Point is not a boundary. It’s an invitation to listen differently.
