A while back Soundcloud, god bless 'em, bumped this particular mix of mine off its server because of a silly copyright issue stemming from the first track. But have no fear - I did a little bit of editing tomfoolery to try and outsmart soundcloud's copyright gestapo and, for the time being, it looks like it worked! This mix is by far one of my most favorite mixes I've done in the history of my Tropical residency and I'm excited to be able to share it once again. I strongly recommend that you download immediately just in case the powers that be strike again. :-)

Here's a portion of my set recorded from the GRAVITY party in Los Angeles. It's raw, spontaneous, 100% all vinyl, AND it's downloadable. First record went on at 3am right after DUBTRIBE SOUNDSYSTEM'S excellent live performance and I continued playing until 6:30. Whoever you are, and no matter what your musical preference, there is a good chance you have danced to a Kieran Hebden beat before now. The London man best known as Four Tet has done everything in his career, from glistening indie-licked electronica albums to pumping bass and garage mixes for Fabric via collaborations with Steve Reid and Burial, shows on NTS and plenty of club ready projects on his own Text label. We have long been a fan, and recently he played for us at Dekmantel Festival. 

The results were recorded and we present them to you here as our latest podcast. As you would expect, it is hard to put into words what the man aims for, and achieves, across the course of two hours, but suffice it to say it will surely be the most adventurous mix you hear for a while. From niche Indian music to classic house, dirty STL cuts to synthetic tech and Latin tinged funk, he stitches together a wild ride full of smooth left turns and dazzling curveballs that will make you want to loosen every limb in your body and shake till you drop. We already have done once back in early August, and now we surely will do again and again and again.

This is a hot new techno mix that I played at Deck 22 in Tijuana for Baja Burner!  Super fun party and crowd, I had a great time there and felt the love from everyone <3  Thanks to Jorge Del Rio for bringing me!

Funny that I played in Mexico City, Acapulco, Guadalajara, Palenque, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, Puerto Morelos, Canyon de Guadalupe, and Ensenada before Tijuana, which is actually the closest Mexican city to my home in Los Angeles, but that's exactly what happened!

In any case, from my long history playing in Mexico I know it's a great place to play music for people, and also that they like it a little on the harder, trippier side, so that's what you have hear, a trippy techno set that still maintains elements of funkiness in the bassliness, hope you like it!

In a pinch, if forced to employ adjectives to describe the Mark E. Quark style, one would come up with words like “groovy, laid back and nasty” house music. But putting grammar aside, it’s reasonable to just say that Quark has internalized influences from DJ Harvey, Idjut Boys, Jeno, and Andrew Weatherall, mashed them up, and given life to a signature style and a creature which is totally unique. This creature is currently brought to life for public consumption  at Moonshake in San Diego.
