My musical setting of the opening portion of Walt Whitman elegiac poem in memory of Abraham Lincoln.

The choir in this recording is Southern Adventist University's I Cantori Chamber Choir, conducted by Gennevieve Brown-Kibble.

The artwork pictured is a drawing by my brother, Markus McGrath, intended to go along with this composition.

Saguaro (pronounced sa-Wah-ro) was written in response to the Tucson shootings on January 8, 2011 – now known as the Tucson Tragedy. It is a song of compassion and tenderness.

Dedicated to Gary. The theme is a 19th century  "Itkuvirsi" (lament) tune from Suistamo, Karelia. Played on a five-string kantele (with viscose strings, same sound as horse hair) made by Rauno Nieminen, the original one in the museum is dated 1893; and a 5-string kantele with bronze strings, also made by Rauno Nieminen, the original one is dated 1833; and a 10-string kantele with bronze strings, made by Pekka Lovikka
