It was written by Paul Nicholson as a set of seven motets for Easter in Year B. The Schola Cantorum of St. Peter's In the Loop recorded it on the cd, "Music for Easter II." The organist is Br. Nathanael Deward Rahm, BSG. This motet is now published by GIA Publications in Chicago as part of an octavo called "Three Epistle Motets." The order number is G-7593; the cost is $1.90. Today's MARIAN sound file is a Carpatho-Rusyn folk hymn to the Theotokos, "Beautiful, Holy Queen." The translation into English was done by the Rev. Msgr. William Levkulic and Cantor Jerry Jumba, and arranged for SSAA choir by J. Michael Thompson. It was recorded by the Schola Cantorum of St. Peter the Apostle on the cd, "Rejoice, O Full of Grace," which is sold by the Basilian Sisters Gift Shop at Mount St. Macrina, Uniontown, PA.

On Sat. in the 24th Wk of OT, today's sound file is "The Seed is the Word of God," a Gospel motet by German Lutheran composer Melchior Vulpius on Luke 8: 11, 15l. The Schola Cantorum of St. Peter's in the Loop recorded it on the cd, "Music for the Year of Matthew," which was published by The Liturgical Press (www.litpress.org) in 1998.

Did you ever sing "partner songs" in grade school?  Well, the same concept works for doing the same hymn to two different tunes.  Here is the the great Easter hymn derived from the Paschal Canon of St. John of Damascus, "Come ye faithful, raise the strain," sung to the tunes "St. Kevin" and "Ave Virgo Virginum." The arrangement was made by Carl F. Schalk (may his memory be eternal!) and published by GIA Publications in Chicago.   It was recorded by the Schola Cantorum of St. Peter's in the Loop on the audio cassette recording, "Music for Easter," published by The Liturgical Press, Collegeville, MN.
