Brennan is a good pal, a fellow BMX enthusiast, and a terrific DJ & Producer. He was a natural for a first guest. In true fraternal Irish style Brennan broke my balls, but also graciously
helped with some of the arduous setup issues for this undertaking. He left with my studio keys (!), but also gave me the complete episodes of “Trailer Park Boys”, one of his native land’s
greatest cultural contributions. Special thanks to Tariq Abdus-Sabur and Sean Brennan for all their help on this, and for putting up with me & BG. Brennan Green runs the Chinatown label, DJ’s worldwide, and has produced numerous original tracks and remixes. His most recent project is the Kid Creole LP “I Wake Up Screaming” on Strut

Ahead of Saturday’s Dane’s Dance Emporium x Voyage Funktastique session this Saturday at Performance Works, we asked Walla P to contribute a mix to our Pacific Spirit series. 

As predicted, he did not disappoint! In our opinion (and many others) Walla P is one of the purest and most talented DJs in the funk, disco, and boogie sphere, and we can’t wait to see him do his thing here in Vancouver for the first time.

Here are a few words about his mix from the man himself…

“For this guest mix, I got inspired by listening to some of the previous mixes, lots of atmospheric/ambient grooves from records that came out over the last decade or so. Lots of stuff you don’t get to usually play, but I like to think that this could be the soundtrack for my flight to Vancouver.”

Next up in the Mr Bongo Record Club mix series we invited Norwich-based DJ collective and party purveyors Soul Stew to give us a taste of what they're all about. Firmly rooted in the city's scene for over 9 years, they've been throwing some of the finest parties Norwich has to offer. Alongside championing local talent they’ve also hosted a real range of some of the top international selectors from far and wide, including Sassy J, Volcov, Mark Grusane, Sadar Bahar, Floating Points, Ash Lauryn and Ge-ology to name only a handful.&nbsp;

As a DJ duo Bill and Jack are a real joy to see behind the decks. Effortless blends of unforgiving, unquantized disco, boogie, house, techno and beyond. Their style, skill and passion led to them being signed to Sounds Familiar earlier this year and has seen them play at Fabric, KOKO, Pickle Factory, We Out Here, Lost Village, Field Maneuvers and many more great dancefloors.

Tom Waits (on Jim Wilson): "Wilson, he's always playing with time. I heard a recording recently of crickets slowed way down. It sounds like a choir, it sounds like angel music. Something sparkling, celestial with full harmony and bass parts - you wouldn't believe it. It's like a sweeping chorus of heaven, and it's just slowed down, they didn't manipulate the tape at all. So I think when Wilson slows people down, it gives you a chance to watch them moving through space. And there's something to be said for slowing down the world."

Don't know about anyone else but I'm getting more disillusioned with SoundCloud with every change they make. The new algorithm and its 'recommendations' ignore mixes and any tracks over 10 mins, they've removed the New & Hot charts and replaced them with irrelevant crap like "Events near you", and this new UI has me searching for a way to revert it.
