Lesson 18 - The Book of Purification & Prayer from Manhaj as-Salikin

40 Ḥadīth—Lesson 38—Abū Idrees—03.06.25


- Ḥadīth #10: The Answered Supplication
- Explanation of Shaykh al-‘Uthaymīn (رحمه الله).
- Benefits of the ḥadīth.
- A principle of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamā’ah regarding the perfection of the Names and Attributes of Allāh. 
- “And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allāh, so call on Him by them…” [Sūrah al-A’rāf:180]
- Clarification that there is an Attribute that stems from every Name of Allāh, but not vice versa (i.e. a Name is not derived from every Attribute). 
- Examples from the Qur’ān of actions of Allāh that are not used to derive a Name. 
- Proof that betrayal is not attributed to Allāh in any circumstance. 
- “…and for Allāh is the highest description.” [Sūrah an-Naḥl:60]
- “Verily, my Lord is on the Straight Path.” [Sūrah Hūd 11:56]
- The judgement of Allāh and all of His actions are sound and good in every time, place and occurrence. 
- “And who is better in judgement than Allāh for a people who have firm Faith.” [Sūrah al-Mā’idah 5:50]
- “Is not Allāh the Best of judges?” [Sūrah at-Tīn 95:8]
- Examples of actions Allāh will not accept. 
- The two categories of actions. 
- The permissibility of utilising methods that encourage a person to do righteous actions. 
- The blameworthiness of refraining (or preventing others) from eating/drinking what is lawful and good. 
- The manner in which Allāh is thanked for His blessings, and an example from the Messenger ﷺ in this regard. 
- A principle regarding how we should be when we are advised or told to fear Allāh.
- Things that can prevent a person’s supplication from being accepted. 
- The supplication of the one whose food, drink and clothing is ḥarām. 
- Means that aid in a person’s supplication being accepted. 
- Caution against consuming ḥarām. 
- Discipling and fighting against our souls in order to have our supplications accepted by Allāh.

[06/06/2025] Remember Allāh During the Days of Tashrīq - By Abu Fuḍayl ‘Abdur Raqīb حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

- “It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allāh, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject to you that you may magnify Allāh for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muḥammad ﷺ) to the Muḥsinūn (doers of good).” [Sūrah al-Ḥajj 22:37]

- The celebration of Tawḥīd in these days of ‘Eid. 

- The prohibition of fasting on ‘Eid and the days of Tashrīq. 

- “And remember Allāh during the appointed Days.” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:203]

- Ways in which we remember Allāh on the days of Tashrīq. 

- The takbīr after every prayer, and its wording.

- The intent behind ‘Eid. 

- Following the practice of Prophets Ibrāhīm and Muḥammad (عليهما الصلاة والسلام) in mentioning the Name of Allāh when performing the sacrifice. 

- Remembering Allāh upon eating and drinking and not overindulging to the point one is diverted from the worship of Allāh. 

- Prescribed manners when eating and drinking.

- Remembering our brothers and sisters in need who are being relentlessly attacked. 

- Following the way of the Salaf in remembering and glorifying Allāh plentifully in these blessed days. 

- Ḥasan al-Baṣrī (رحمه الله) on the meaning of the supplication, “Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!" [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:201]

- The reward for righteous deeds based upon sound knowledge. 

- How eating and drinking can be acts of nearness to Allāh. 

- Warning against being heedless and carrying out acts of disobedience in these days. 

- “Therefore remember Me; I will remember you, and be grateful to Me and never be ungrateful to Me.” [Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:152]


Remember Allāh During the Days of Tashrīq By Abu Fudayl

Covered in this lesson:

- Question 55. How many ways or types of indications are there that point to the Names of Allāh? – and its answer.
- Question 56. What is an example of that (i.e. His Names and what they indicate)? – and its answer.
Notes and points of benefit:

- These two questions enter into a very important topic with great significance, in understanding the Names and Attributes of Allāh. Through this one will see the misguidance of Ahlul-Kalām, and what Allāh can be described with and what He cannot be described with.

- Regarding Q55, the answer of Shaykh Hāfidh Al-Hakamī’s (رحمه الله) which mentions three types/categories:

1) mutābaqah (corresponding, agreement, conformity) – which points to the Essence of Allāh.
2) tadammun -by way of inclusion.
3) iltizām – by way of necessitation.

- Given this is a technical discussion, the example of the word ‘house’ was provided and elaborated upon to assist in understanding and comprehending this subject matter.

- It is futile that the word Ar-Rahīm points to a being without the attribute of mercy. Why have all these Names, do they not point to attributes? This is the way of the Mu’tazilah who affirm the Names but hold there is no attribute behind them, which is futile.

- There is a distinction between Allāh having a Name and the creation having a name e.g. Hakīm – Allāh has this attribute but the creation may not even though someone may be named that name, a person named Hakīm might actually be jāhil.

- The explanation of Shaykh ‘Uthaimīn (رحمه الله).

- Regarding Q56, the answer of Shaykh Hāfidh Al-Hakamī’s (رحمه الله) where the example of the Names Ar-Rahmān (The Most Merciful) and Ar-Rahīm (The Bestower of Mercy) are provided and how the three types/categories are applied to these two Names, which is also the case with all the rest of the Names of Allāh.
