Concerning The Woman On The 5th Floor

Just used an electric cello and a Boss GT10 effects board. No loops, no delay, no feedback, no post-production... just live effects (reverb, distortion), foot pedal, and lots of bow control.

Originally written for the London Sinfonietta and performed by Tim Gill at Southbank Centre on 28th March 2015; this version was recorded with me playing the electric cello.

From the age of around 11 I've been plagued by migraines. As I've gotten older their occurrence has thankfully lessened but the memory of the first one that hit hard stays with me - it sounded pretty much like this. (well, obviously not but it'll do!)

Out The Window Disquiet0185 - Memorymusic

Looped the viola a number of times live - some with 100% wet signal from a couple of delay and reverb pedals and some 100% dry. I liked the effect of hearing the layers build up, but due to the time constraint of 1:00 I selected a chunk in the middle  of the piece before it got a bit too cacophonous and muddy (I may have got carried away with the number of loops I had running towards the end...)

Slap Another One On There Disquiet0189 - Tonelayer

Haven (2014, for organ) is a short meditation based on the plainsong communio for Lent 3, "The Sparrow hath found herself a house, and the turtle a nest, where she may lay her young."

This performance is by Michael Bonaventure at Kunst-Station Sankt Peter, Köln (pictured, with installation by Claire Morgan), from a concert in October 2015
