This mix did get playe at Eddy's funeral, firestarter was played as we exited, glowsticks were thrown onto the coffin, i was honoured enough to he 1 of the coffin bearers, id also like to thank you Mark for coming down to Canvas the following july to play at Eddy's memorial rave we hosted. This month, a huge fan of mine sadly passed away and I was asked if I could do a mix to be played at his funeral. He’d actually messaged me the week before saying he was coming to see me play at a gig. Eddy, like me, loved and lived for music. I didn’t know him on a 'best friends' personal level, but when I did spot him on the dancefloor there was that inevitable connection that you can only feel through music. You know – that feeling you get when something happens in the music where you both smile and think ‘yup, we’re on the same trip here – and my god listen to that riff!’. Sure I was the one playing the music, but it was the music that was in control here – not me, not him, not even life itself. 

When I heard of his passing I felt a huge sadness. The reality that nothing lasts forever - apart from music and memory - hit me. I can’t explain why I wanted to do this mix for him – I just did. I suppose I wanted to make something for a fellow music lover that goes some way to define the passion we all feel for this powerful force called music. 

Eddy loved the hard trance I play, so I picked music from a very personal point in my life when I used to work for one of the most amazing hard trance labels in the world – Bonzai. I pulled out some of the best music I was involved in during that period and put it together in a 38 minute mix. It was actually suppose to be only 30 minutes, but it didn’t tell the whole story without the last track, so I kept going.

As I write this, his funeral is today. I'm told the mix will be played as people enter the church.  Apparently glow sticks will be thrown into the coffin. ‘Firestarter’ will be played as he leaves to the other-side. When I go to that great place in the sky, I hope someone is left in this world that will do the same for me. Fun, friends, family, people you meet along the way are all so amazing, so precious of course, but life is nothing without music. Nothing. RIP Eddy x

Official Allen & Heath DJ and a main player in the UK music industry for 30 years. Mark EG has transmitted his musical message many times over from the UK to Australia, transcending generations and cultures by playing countless different styles of electronic music. With a unique and anarchic approach, Mark has won many awards and accolades. His energy and passion for sound is quite simply, unparalleled. 

Mark’s stage antics are legendary. Previous shows have involved ironing boards, chainsaws, smashed decks and guitars, 12ft ladders, bags of flour. He entertains his fans like no other DJ in the world. They even have their own 'Mark EG' chant. 

 As a respected radio DJ, Mark runs his own national FM radio show on Megapolis 89.5FM. 'Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out' focuses on techno, electronica and more. His Megacast focuses on the harder sound. 

 Mark has released, remixed and mastered music under various guises on some of the worlds top labels. He runs his own Blackout Audio label (dark techno) and EG-303 (acid). His work with global equipment giants Allen & Heath has taken him around the world, officially testing and demonstrating their products at various events and conferences. He now also runs his own Music School, which enables him to give his knowledge back to those who want to get ahead in the music industry.

 There have been many imitators, but there is only one Mark EG!
