Composer and bassist Joshua Young (b.1989, Queens, NY) was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA at age 17. During his time at Berklee he performed with Bob Reynolds (John Mayer saxophonist), Rashawn Ross (Dave Matthews Band trumpeter), Louis Cato (Drummer for Marcus Miller and Bassist for Late night with Stephen Colbert) and Tariqh Akoni (Guitarist and MD for Josh Groban). 

Young Recorded and performed with K-pop star/actor/violinist Henry Lau (Super Junior-M) in 2012.  As well as opened up for 6-time grammy winner Victor Wooten at a Berklee Bass Faculty concert (2014). Young was featured in the Gospel Chops Bass Sessionz Vol. 2 DVD along with Anthony Crawford (Allan Holdsworth, Virgil Donati), Brandon Brown (Jackson 5) and Marc Peric (Planetshakers) in 2013. Young has toured and performed with his Jazz trio in China 2015 on local tv. He also performed with top Billboard artist Daya in Times Square NYC for NYE opening up for Taylor Swift and Jessie J on Live TV in 2016. 

Young did a solo tour in 2019 in Japan performing solo electric bass jazz shows in four cities (Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto) including Yokohama's famous Motion Blue Jazz Club. Masa Goto, Young’s Booking Agent & Tour manager in Japan also manages other solo artists such as famed guitarist Mateus Asato (Guitarist for Tori Kelly/Jessie J) and Marty Friedman (Guitarist for Megadeth). Young has done studio session recordings with studio giants such as JR Robinson (Drummer for MJ, Daft Punk), Dan Werner (Guitarist/MD for Shakira, Timberlake), and Bashiri Johnson (Percussionist for Sting, Madonna, MJ) just to name a few. 

Young has also completed an array of very intricate contrapuntal compositions for Chamber string orchestra. Featuring a complete Prelude and Fugue for 8 voices starring the illustrious Austrian “Oberton String Octet.” Young has also composed for string trio, 2 string quartets featuring a quadruple fugue, 1 string quintet and a string sextet that has yet to be released. Young has also composed pieces for solo Concert Piano in the style of J.S Bach and Brad Mehldau.

Ultimately, Young’s focus has been on jazz, funk, classical music along with Caribbean and African music rhythms fused with intricate harmonies. He continues to push the physical barriers of the electric bass by writing polyphonic 2-3 part fugues for the once believed monophonic instrument. Young also expresses his creativity by pushing his limits when it comes to creating dynamic contrapuntal pieces in a Neo-Baroque setting. Young obsessed with the rigorous harmonic language of the great fugal composer J.S Bach interweaves a tapestry of melodic content across the border of electric and acoustic instrumentation. Young now resides in Los Angeles where he is working alongside exciting musicians on projects covering all genres of music. He is currently working  on his solo album featuring new original music as a solo artist/instrumentalist.
