The phrases in the first verse were whirling around in my head as I tried to make an ultimately insignificant decision that consumed me for an hour. This song captures that feeling of having so many options but not know which to take.

Chlorine spiked with lead
Is what we get instead
Of natural water streaming in our home
Turn the tap with dread
Of waking up brain dead
Like the ancient citizens of Rome

We pay increasing bills
But still can't drink our fill
Without contagion lurking in the glass
Additives that kill
A swill to make us ill
Swallowing amoebas with each gasp

Just can't beat that Pittsburgh water
Flowing under streets into the sink
Just can't drink that Pittsburgh water
The dangers are more real than you think

City mains are cracking
Maintenance is lacking
Rivers from old pipes run down the road
Public health collapsing
H2O attacking
Dumping lead in children as they grow

When air was clean
And water pure
A distant dream

The reservoirs
Were crystal blue
