Bazz - Knights (FIBRE Remix)

This song is inspired by all the moments in my life that have been formative for me. More specifically, the moments I experienced when I was struggling to be a full-time musician. 

Years ago, I lived with my sister in the Inland Empire about an hour east from Los Angeles. I didn’t have enough money to get my own place so my sister graciously let me stay with her. The deal was that I had to babysit my niece in exchange for rent.

I remember feeling hopeless during that time. I moved to California to follow my dreams of becoming a musician but I felt like it was going nowhere. I was hitting dead ends and I wasn’t sure of my own musical direction. Some of my family members thought that I was wasting my time pursuing such an elusive career.  

When my sister had days off, we went out to eat and talk. I remember the conversations being deep and impactful for me. I recall telling her that, “I really want to make this music thing work.” She responded by saying, “You can do this. You were made for this. It has always been in you.” That gave me a surge of hope.  

Time went on and through luck and persistence, I slowly inched toward my goal of making music and art full time. I eventually got back on my feet, moved out, and started building my life the way I imagined it.

Earlier this year, while I was producing the final touches of this song, I searched for an ambient sound that I could layer over the music. I found a sample of my sister asking, “Ano rine-record mo?” (What are you recording?) and decided to use it. She had caught me recording ambient noises on my phone while we ate at a Panda Express years ago.

Remembering that moment triggered by that sample made me feel so grateful for my sister and the support she’s given me over the years. I love her. She’s been instrumental in my career as a musician. To pay tribute to her, I thought  I’d immortalize that feeling, that moment, into this song.

I hope this song speaks to you. I hope it reminds you of all the moments that have shaped you into who you are. I hope you find moments worth keeping and remembering for a lifetime.

Each moment is a gift. Don’t ever let go of them.

I tried to mix the styles of music that i like, which are moe shop, setka and pure gem's style with a rare japanese funk vibe on it.
