Joris Voorn: "Here's the tape that made me wanna be a DJ.

Derrick May is one of our main headliners at Rejected's Amsterdam Dance Event 2012 night at Studio 80, 18th of october.
Since my early dj days, I consider Derrick May as a huge inspiration, and in particular this dj set. Broadcasted live in 1996 from the legendary Chemistry night at Escape, Amsterdam. It was recorded from midnight radio by my partner in crime Edwin Oosterwal who borrowed me the cassette tape which I never gave back to him, which reminds me I should do that sometime soon.

In this mix, Derrick May shows us that in 1996 dance wasn't pigeonholed to one style or sound. He mixes Moodymann's groovy deephouse with Jeff Mills and Surgeon's raw techno. He goes from Donna Summer's disco to Tyree Cooper's jacking electronic funk, from Masters of Work's new york house to Ian Pooley's epic chord techno. All of this is mixed in a fast and skillful pace, a style that so clearly carries Derrick's signature.

There's some truly magical moments in this mix, how he get's out of Surgeon's 'Syllable' into Global Communication's 'Sensorama' at 1:09 leaves me speechless..

Even though by now I know most of the record he plays here, there's still a few I've been looking since the very first time I heard this mix. Would be great to get the tracklist completed, any help is greatly appreciated!

After performing at First Avenue located in Minnesota, respectably known for Prince’s forefront of music venues, I decided to release the recorded mix as part of the Submerge Live series, fourth edition. These mixes are released based on how memorable the events were. Seeing friends like Dustin Zahn, Arron Litschke, James Hammer come together as well as performing with my close friend’s Ricardo Garduno and my other half in the project Impact Mechanics Komprezzor, take a listen to what I have been rocking out too.

Gabriel D&#8217;Or &amp; Bordoy continue to unfold their scroll of skills and this time they have delved into even more uncharted territory and, of course, emerged victorious.

&#8220;Carbon 7&#8221; starts out deceivingly with shadowy elements and otherworldly effects,which unexpectedly give way to old school chords that firmly stand their ground and lead to a breakdown of epic proportions. The same vibe continues on &#8220;Carbon 12&#8221;, where grinding drums and subtle stabs share center stage with the now familiar chords that, once again, take things to a whole new level.

Anyone serious about their techno will certainly have come across the name Mark Reeve. Moving to Germany from England 15 years ago in search of an inspirational scene that embraced his tough uncompromising sound. First discovered by Sven Väth Mark has since gone on to establish a reputation totally respected by his peers through groundbreaking productions on iconic labels such as Afterlife, Drumcode, Cocoon, Soma and many more. Fully established on the scene Mark has helped push electronic music forwards as a solo artist, while working with true heavyweights like Tale of Us, Adam Beyer and Pig&Dan 

Equally at home behind the decks and a mixer live as he is in the studio, Mark’s DJ sets have been been receiving fantastic feedback, with his talent and artistic vision taking listeners on a thrilling journey full of hard driving beats and intense melodies at dance floors around the globe such as Awakenings Gashouder, Space Ibiza, Fabrik Madrid or Rex Club.
