It almost has become a yearly tradition for me, to make an atmospheric drum & bass mix. And what better place to conceive one is in the wilderness of Hiiumaa, the insula deserta. In front of a stove, of course, and a drink to keep me warm next nearby.

This mix features 26 lush tracks mostly from 2021, and is probably the longest Atmospheric Session I've ever recorded.

For the 2nd set of the night we had Doc Scott taking it back to the 90's in front of a sold out crowd, this is the 2nd of the 3 recordings that we are uploading from this memorable mid-summer event. It was a special night in June of this year with 800+ people crammed into Xoyo's upstairs room (from pretty much before the very first needle was placed on the record until going past the nights extended close). Again a big thanks to Benji B for inviting us down to take over the room.

PRODIGY TRIBUTE SHOW June 21,2017 ADWL X GROUNDBREAKERS

Had a somewhat quieter year in terms of music, and, honestly, it felt refreshing.  It has become a tradition for me, to create an Atmospheric Session at least once per year, and I didn't want 2017 to end without one. So here comes this nice summary of what atmospheric drum & bass meant to me for last 12 months. Those familiar with my previous sessions probably know what to expect, those who aren't - without resorting to clichés like "let the music do the talking" - could discover many cinematic, haunting, floating, cold, warm, and dare I say - romantic soundscapes.

The cover picture is from the suburb of Lasnamäe, right after the first snow, during the longest nights when the sun sets right after 3PM.

Atmospheric Session december 2017

Here comes my first Atmospheric Session, for the year 2018. This time, there are some jazzier vibes thrown in for the flavour, also entries from artists or labels not normally associated with such music. 

To be completely honest, I recorded this mix in April already. I have an unhealthy habit of digesting the end result for a while, to listen to it through and through over and over again, to find the slightest mistakes. Perfectionism meets procrastination, so to speak. Fast forward three months - I reach the very same conclusion I usually do. This mix is great as it is, after all, it's all about the music. Each individual track has something to add into the blend, and my style tends to jump across different moods.

This live mix is a classic, Jazzy Jeff blending the old with the new!! On the original file the MCs voice was loud and the file was recorded clear but low.  I just pumped up the volume and added a bit more sparkle in the mid/top end and added a touch more bass!!!

Metalheadz with Quartz and Fanu   - 17th October 2018

November 9, 1993 will forever go down as one of the greatest days in hip hop history.  Two of the genre’s most revered albums dropped on the same day:  Wu-Tang Clan’s debut ‘Enter The 36 Chambers’, &  A Tribe Called Quest’s third LP ‘Midnight Marauders’.  I remember riding my bike to the mall, with money I had earned from my after-school job.  I had anticipated this day for awhile, and saved up in advance to pick up both albums (at that age $40 felt like $500).  For the months that followed, both albums fought for playing time on my boombox.  One moment, I was transported to the boulevard of Linden, and the next to the rugged streets of Shaolin.  Those albums stayed in my rotation forever (literally).
To mark the 25th anniversary of both LP’s, I thought it might be a good idea to try and take the vocals from Wu-Tang’s album, and blend them over the instrumentals from Midnight Marauders.  I wasn’t sure it would work at first, but as is usually the case, inspiration hit at midnight when I was trying to sleep (the coincidence of the timing is not lost on me).  A couple of hours later, I managed to pair up every single Wu-Tang vocal with a suitable beat from MM.  The intent was not to improve on the originals in any way….that would be impossible, as I consider them both to be perfect bodies of work.  Rather, it was about orchestrating a fun concept, and putting a totally new spin on these well-worn classics.  The contrast of Wu’s gritty street raps over Tribe’s jazzy production works in an unexpected way.  Now, I present to you my personal tribute to these legendary groups:   A Clan Called Wu - “Enter The Marauders”.
