Deck RX Soundtrack

Deck RX - Deaf City - Ingame WIP 01

Due to a lack of sleeping tablet this evening, I was reminiscing about my school music teacher, Miss Heather Cowl MBE, who passed away earlier this year. 

Some of the comments on this announcement reminded me that Ian Chard, Mark Porter and I used to hang out in her/our classroom, the "Small Hall", most break and lunch times.

One such time, Ian and I were mucking around on the Grand Piano when I played an Oom-Pah sequence of left hand octave C - Bb - F# - C# with a C minor 2nd in the right hand.... It sounded utterly crazy and stupid, so I continued and wrote a short melody which kind of fit in an almost dissonant way..... proclaimed that it was "BOLLUX", went home and wrote a tune on my Commodore 64 computer, using the ElectroSound music sequencer, based on this mucking around

What you hear is the original 1988 tape recording of that C64 tune, when I was 15, followed by a 1990 MIDI update using Cubase, a Roland D10 synth and Alesis SR16 drum machine and a badly mixed "dance" version from 1992 using a Korg 01/W FD and a Boss DR660 drum machine.

Duke Nukem Total Meltdown Re-Imagined - Echo and the Harewoman WIP

Track 8 from the D/Generation HD soundtrack album.

D/Generation was originally released in 1991 on the PC, followed by Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, and CD32 platforms in 1993.

I did the Amiga conversion of the PC title and end game tunes. There were no in-game tracks.

D/Generation HD, a 'high def' re-release of the original game, was released in October 2015 and I was given the opportunity to 'finish an unsettled score' by finally writing the in-game music missing from the original title.

Taking hints from 80's synth wave and cyberpunk, imagine John Carpenter writing happier music, this is the soundtrack I always felt the game was lacking.

I took delivery of a new pair of speakers in 2016 so remastered the original recordings in August 2017.

An original Amiga demoscene oldskooler and current video games composer, the name TDK was originally active in the early 90’s writing catchy and melodic chiptunes for the likes of Anthrox, Crystal and Melon Dezign. Having 'retired' from the scene in 1993 I went on to write the music for such games as Wing Commander (Amiga), Duke Nukem Total Meltdown, Populous: The Beginning and Dungeon Keeper 2.

The advent of the CD-Rom format, and therefore music licensing, threatened my role as a composer so I moved into sound design within my favourite video game genre, driving games.

As a self confessed petrol head, working for Codemasters from 2008, I headed up the audio team on the DiRT, Formula 1 and GRID franchises until 2015 I went 'full circle' back to composition and wrote the OST for F1 2015. Since then, I've penned the soundtracks for Overlord: Fellowship of Evil, the Indie game D/Generation HD - which I originally worked on in 1993, and F1 2016. After finishing F1 2017, I started my own audio production company, SONiC FUEL.

Never leaving the chip sound behind, 'TDK' was brought out of retirement at the end of 2012 with the release of my first album, Reawakening, and I've since fused my love of chip with my passion for the electric violin to perform a unique chiptune-violin set at SuperByte 2013, Chipfest, and Nintendoom 3.0. 

I'm now back writing in a number of different styles, but perhaps my main love of 70's analog synths may take charge of what I write.

Either way, TDK is back! Flit Kills Moths is back! (until Esso sue for brand copyright).
